I am banging my head against a wall oh my god Posted: 01 Jul 2021 09:14 PM PDT My prod science pack (purple) factory produces 8 full belts of prod science. But as a result, I need to input EIGHTY EIGHT (88) FULL belts of rails!!! The logistics are a fucking nightmare. The space I'm designing the module factory on is already pretty big but this goddamn science pack needs so many rails and I gotta pump so many rails into the assemblers to get a full belt of science. I need more space but that means expanding the island (I design my factory blueprints in the map editor) and then shifting the whole module around and then fixing all the problems that causes. Oh my god this is driving me insane. It took me so long my to finally be able to feed these assemblers enough rails and now the input belts don't even fit on the freaking island! On the plus side, the river of rails will look nice later! THOUGHT WHILE TYPING! Belt braiding! I can save space with belt braiding and I already use belt braiding in the factory part so belt braiding the input lanes shouldn't affect throughput! [link] [comments]

I just got the game, I’m now afraid of the addiction this game may have on me Posted: 01 Jul 2021 01:11 PM PDT Factorio has been in my sights for at least a year or so. I never pulled the trigger due to the common "it looks overwhelming." Plus with how I haven't really been big on crafting game like minecraft, No man's sky, and the likes. I even tried the demo of Factorio before and for whatever reason i dropped it before even completing the second tutorial. I did find similar games that were similar but a lot more simplified imo. Such as Mindustry and Shapez.io Mindustry took me a bit to get into, but i was hooked and beat the game once it clicked with me. Shapez.io was addicting day one as I loved the freedom and just trying to figure out how to build awesome factories. Now flash forward to now and I went back to the demo. Playing the two other games helped me a bunch in terms of it "clicking" and not feeling overwhelming as much. Now I bought the game and want to play it whenever i get a free chance but being a parent makes that a little hard haha. I am in love with using mods and I know there's a bunch in here. I also did some research to see that most people agree to play vanilla and launch a rocket before trying mods. I will do that, however I would like to ask, is there any quality of life mods I can still get and use before that? For example any QoL mods you guys use now and think "there's no way i can go back and play without this." Nothing like super game changing as i'll save that after the mainly vanilla run. Haha. Possibly "squeeze", "miniloaders" "ligjted electric poles" "mining platforms"? I have no idea what those do but I have seen them mentioned in past threads a year+ ago when i looked. Also maybe can I get some decent overhaul mod recommendations as well? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I'm excited (cautiously) to joining you all in growing the factory! Factorio Community Map Results - June 2021 Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:33 PM PDT Time's Up Hands off the keyboard! Another month has come to a close, and it's time to share whatever you've got done with the rest of us! Did you finish everything you would have liked to this time around, or did you wind up still having a few big, unfinished plans? Run into any particular issues, or were you pumping those rockets out like nobody's business? Here's the place to share your stories, screenshots, saves, or whatever else you've got! This Month I did it! I finally did it! A vanilla map before the first half of the year came to a close. It was nice to be able to play Factorio again without a lot of other details to consider. How did you all fair the last month? Let us know down below! Next Month So immediately after our first vanilla month of 2021, I'm happy to announce we're jumping straight back into a new mod! At least, so long as I don't find some reason not to use it - it can be surprisingly tricky to make sure I haven't accidentally broken the game somehow. I don't like to spoil too much what the new month will hold, but I will say that those of you who frequent the subreddit may have randomly noticed me talk about it around 2 months ago. That's all you're getting for now though~ Previous Threads -- 2020 -- August 2020: A Look Back - Results / August 2020: 1.0 Launch! - Results -- 2021 -- January-February 2021 - Results June 2021 - Results [link] [comments]

Did I blast myself by buying on Steam? Posted: 01 Jul 2021 12:21 AM PDT I play Smite (a MOBA) which practically requires a Steam account these days. While I'm in queue for a game of Smite, I alt tab and grow my factory. When the game is ready, I click accept and check my position in the picks and bans lobby. This is roughly a five minute business where you're needed for about 10 seconds unless you're randomly the one doing the banning. So naturally I alt tab to Factorio again. And naturally I get carried away with growth and miss my pick and get booted from the lobby. I'm an asshole for wasting up to five minutes for nine othe people. So I get slapped with a deserter debuff and can't queue for another ten minutes. Nice, let's expand the factory. Repeat after ten minutes, only this time the deserter debuff lasts 30min. I'm up to a 12 hour cooldown now so I figured I'd just switch to my other Steam account and play on that since Smite is a free-to-play game. But of course then I lose access to Factorio which I bought on Steam. Is there a way to play Factorio without logging in to Steam? If not, that's ok, I deserve my punishment. [link] [comments]

Factorio Community Map - July 2021 Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:59 PM PDT What is this? The idea behind the monthly community map is to share a map exchange string at the beginning of every month, and get as many people as we can to start a new world with it. Then at the end of the month (or even periodically if you'd prefer!) we share screenshots and saves of our factories so that we can see how different people approach the same spawn; how they set up their base, how they deal with aliens, and how they arrange their science, power, and everything else. I hope it can highlight how many different ways there are to do things, inspire some new designs, and maybe seeing how veteran Factorio players tackle problems will help out new players facing the exact same problems. (Of course, there's also the fact that it'll be interesting to see all of the different possible factories - the good, the bad, and the ugly.) Last Month's Results The Community Map I first saw this particular mod a couple months ago, and immediately I knew I had to use it soon. It's taken me a little while to find a good month for it, but finally I'll get to see how everyone reacts to it! Ok, ok, enough suspense; have a look! Required mod: Vill's Recipe Randomizer - requires Big Data String Library Optional Mod: Discovery Tree Exchange string: What your starting area should look like: https://i.imgur.com/utEONOZ.jpg Sync File: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DjA3uwX7JkfgWxrhS_SpsCMLjEQ89WVc/view?usp=sharing I do a few too many train-focused maps, so this time around I left the generation mostly at default values. And of course, not knowing how much of what resources was going to be required made it hard to anticipate what anything might need to be anyway, so I didn't mess with them much. I did crank up the water and trees though, both for more or less the same reason: It might get expensive to fight biters! It turned out not to be that bad, but still, I feel like this one will take a bit to get used to, so keeping the biters back for just a while longer will likely be a big help. I'm always excited to see your reactions to these odd mods, so let me know what you think! I'm also always open to suggestions, either here or on Discord, so let me know if you ever stumble across any other interesting mods like this one! Exchange String Help If anyone isn't sure how to use an exchange string, just go to new game like you're going to generate a new world, and at the bottom there's a button just above play labelled "Import map exchange string" - the icon looks like a little arrow going into a tray/bucket. Just copy the exchange string above and paste it into the box that comes up when you press that button. Press confirm, and that's it! You're good to go. Just generate the world and come back in a month to show us how your factory turned out! If you run into any issues check to make sure that you copied the whole string, including the three greater than/lesser than signs at the beginning and end, and make sure that your Factorio is up to date with the most recent version installed. (As of the time of this post, the most recent version of Factorio is 1.1.35.) Issues With Adding The Save File If you're uncertain how to use the save file I provided above, here are step by step instructions: 1) First, of course, is to actually download the file. Make sure you know where this file is so you can move it later. (It will be in your browser's default download folder unless you've changed it.) 2) Locate where Factorio's save folder is on your computer. If you've installed Factorio at its default location ( C:\Program Files\Factorio ) then there will be a shortcut to your saves folder there called "saves". Double-click it to go to the saves folder. 3) Take the file you downloaded and move it into this folder. That should be it! Now just launch Factorio and make sure you sync your mods to this save before playing. If you'd like to play on this save specifically (for example, if this month has some per-save settings you don't feel like messing with) then you'll notice when you load the map normally your player will be named "ChaosBeing" (since I'm the one who started the save, of course). To get around this, you can host it as a local multiplayer game and then save. You should now appear as your own character when you load the map from now on! If you have any issues, feel free to ask in the comments below, or in the monthly map's channel on the official Factorio Discord. Want To Play With Others? If you have an open public server, let me know in the comments below or send me a PM and I'll add your server here! Who's the best? You all already know. /u/Galapagon has a server up and running as we speak - details in that post! Feel Like Watching Someone Else? If you are a streamer or let's player who will be recording yourself building a new factory on a community map, I'd be happy to add a link to your channel here! About Mods Since mods can affect how a world spawns and ores are distributed, as well as add or change items and functionality, it's important to make sure that we're all playing the same game by the same rules. For example, if one person's playing vanilla and someone else is playing with Bob's mods, even if they use the same seed and map settings you still couldn't very well say they were playing the same game, and the way they'd play would differ enormously. On the other hand, playing with mods that either don't add any new items or change terrain, or that simply don't change the base game in a significant way, aren't going to change the way you solve problems or the kinds of problems you'll face themselves. As such, these sorts of mods are perfectly fine, even if some people are playing with them and some people aren't. Even Distribution is a wonderful example of a mod that, while very useful, does not inherently change the way the game is played. Then there are also mods like RadarPlus for RSO that do add new items, but still don't really change the way the game is played. I've decided to put together a list of these optional mods that I think are ok to use on any map below. The list is by no means comprehensive; it simply serves as an example of the sorts of mods that should be fine. Optional Mods Note: I can't imagine any situation where this could be an issue, but if you're the author of one of the mods listed here (and can offer me some proof of this) and for whatever reason would like me to remove your mod from this post, I'd be happy to comply. It's entirely possible some of these mods either don't work with the current version of Factorio, conflict with each other, or in some manner just don't work. I can't test them all, let alone every configuration of them, so you might want to back up your world before adding one of these. Posted: 01 Jul 2021 07:42 AM PDT I got Factorio about a month ago, first fame was a vanilla DW, second one I added K2 but I never got to nuclear power or launched a rocket there. Im 30hrs into my first SE/K2/AAI base on DW and really freaking love it. I claimed a huuge chunk of land and automated the defenses. I have nuclear power at 800MW, nuclear shells, launched a few satellites and have 3 cargo rockets ready for Nautilus moon/space. I also found a good planet with immersite/beryl etc. But as soon as I get on the space platform, I'm totally lost and have no idea on what I should actually build and bring with me at all. I reloaded a few saves but it never works out. SE is an amazing mod but I feel really overwhelmed just by setting up the first basic science package. Are there any good let's plays that include the early space platform stuff? [link] [comments]
