- Thinking of making a YouTube series named "No BS" where I go over a lot of aspects of the game (only a single aspect each episode). Where I go in depth, without any BS like "Remember to subscribe" and stuff. Anybody interested in that?

Incredibly low UPS on dedicated server, but game says 60/60 Posted: 29 Mar 2020 12:34 AM PDT My friend and I have a world we've been playing on for close to 500 hours (some of that is AFK time, but a lot of it is actual play time). We've reached space in Space Exploration, but just barely. Our world isn't anywhere close to what I'd call "crazy" in comparison to what I've seen online. Unfortunately, the world has become unplayably slow on my dedicated server. I actually just upgraded server hardware, from an old Dell PowerEdge to a somewhat newer Fujitsu rack server. Specs are 2x Xeon 2.6 GHz processors, 32 logical cores total. 128 GB RAM (1600 MHz DDR3 server memory, I know it's a bit slow). When we run the map on the server, the game feels like it's running at about 25 UPS. Trains take *forever* to accelerate, and you can see each individual sprite frame as they rotate around curves. The latency is super low: 4 ticks, and the game actually says "60/60" for FPS/UPS. If I save the map and run it in singleplayer on my gaming rig (5 GHz i7-8086K, 2070 Super, 16 GB DDR4), it usually says around 54/54, and feels *incredibly* fluid and smooth compared to the server. It looks like it's being played back in slow motion, but that's realtime. Why is the dedicated server so much worse (yet it shows 60?)? Is there a way to tell what part of our world is causing the most UPS drop? The only large number in the timing debug was "Entity" at around 9ms (rest were all below 1), but 9ms shouldn't cause a UPS drop given that anything under 16.67 is still 60 UPS. Can`t play online (error 10038) Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:51 AM PDT Yesterday I tried playing Factorio with my brother but when he tried to connect to any server he got "error 10038 An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket". I`ve done some googling, but none of the suggested fixes worked. What I already tried:
The only reddit post that asked the same question seems to be this one, but the only fix that was suggested there seems to be quite tedious and not too helpful. What is the next thing I should try? [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 29 Mar 2020 06:21 AM PDT Hey all, first time poster. I saw a lot of people asking for a good train system in vanilla. Well, I've been experimenting a bit with it taking several ideas and combining them all.This is what I came up with. It basically uses outposts for each resource (Being ore, finished products or fluids...) and requester stations. Requester stations:- You can tell how many trains are allowed maximum (Standard 2)- You do have to set the chests size it can take in. (Depends on how you build your chest setup) Outposts:- Outposts are all the same. You just decide how much trains will be using that outpost (Standard 2) but I can add as many as I want. Depends on the throughput it has.- You have to add train ID's to the combinators to reserve a specific lane in the stacker, otherwise they will not enter. This allows me to track all the trains. And a lot of more things... Feel free to ask. (I'm still compiling a blueprint book with all the stations pre build). Shout out to Mojo for the Build it all, I've adopted that system and adjusted it for my use.Shout out to 2 other guy's of which I used some Idea's, I just forgot their names... Sorry!
