I think putting all these next to each other was a bad idea...

My biggest factory yet! I finally figured out automatic trains and now I can't stop.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 10:35 AM PST

Is this visual glitch new? There's horizontal black lines above the chests in alt-mode

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:36 AM PST

Just a friendly sign to remind you to grow you factory! The factory must grow!

1M Science / hour. Is it possible without mods?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 03:22 PM PST

Having built many 3k factories; I really want to go big. So I want to put the MEGA in Megabase i.e. 1 Million Science / hour, which corresponds to 16667 Science / min.

Anyone have some ideas on what to do and what not to do at this scale?

Some of my thoughts on are:

    - Very large trains to minimise train pathfinding (60+ wagons)

    - No train intersections at all to minimise train pathfinding

    - Direct mining into trains to minimise belts and robots

. Direct assembling into trains to minimise belts and robots

    - Limit circuit network to minimise calculations

    - Disable biters and pollution (when necessary) to minimise calculations

Any other good ideas on things to do and things not to do?

I am starting streaming the journey on Twitch and it will probably take a few month; it starts Sunday 17th at 8 PM CET at twitch.tv/nilaus if you want to come hang out and give ideas :)

100h with 0 restarts, here's the ultimate spaghetti! Default everything, blind playthrough, lots of rebuilding.

    Full Spaghetti. 500 SPM belted, 16.30 kSPM/km^2

New player: just started looking for oil and this was all I could find. Is this enough?

Blueprints need to stay in your blueprint menu

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 09:23 PM PST

Transferring a blueprint from your blueprint menu to your inventory should not remove it from your blueprint menu. I don't know who thought this was a good idea. It is not a good idea. It simply leads to blueprints being lost inadvertently.

If I want the blueprint gone from my blueprint menu, I will explicitly delete it.

Please devs. For the love of god. Change this ridiculous system.

When you find out you made 2400 stone furnaces that you'll never use

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 04:46 AM PST

Introduced the GF about 6 hours ago. She's getting green science figured out. :)

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 09:50 PM PST

Giant belt of coal running in a loop around the base that makes its path past all of the resource patches so that the furnaces can each get their coal. The same looped belt of coal feeds the steam power plants. No walls or defenses yet at 6 hours in, biters will kick in soon.

It's fun playing with someone who has never played before. Reminds me of all the logical choices you make just starting out that end up being really inefficient/boxing you in to a design that can't expand. Good times. I'm being sure to only prod and help answer UI and component usage questions and not influence design decisions.

    The factory must grow.

Idea for a Modular Mega Base? (forget about UPS)

I love this game!! and the way it complicates your existence. First time I got this far btw, about to built the rocket silo.

    Self-Contained Module Factory (12/min)

    Self-Contained Module Factory (12/min)

First of all, THIS IS NOT MY DESIGN. It was first posted 2 years ago by u/lee1026 in this thread:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/9v1fe9/selfcontained_module_factory_12min/

The Pastebin link was deleted so I spent several hours recreating it for use. I did add a couple things. He originally said he used 1 Heavy Oil Barrel to start the Coal Liquefaction, so I put in an assembler to use one. I also added some refueling stations for the trains using Logistics Robots.

How to report a bug? On version 1.1.12 it complains about connecting fluids of same type with underground pipes. If you connect wih overground ones and then use underground it works. Devs, keep up the good work. I love the game!

New Challenge: Use a time lapse mod that screenshots your entire base. Maintain the same aspect ratio base as you grow. Here's my current attempt.

    Posted: 16 Jan 2021 05:50 PM PST

So I've been playing a new save and I've been loving this new twist.
Here's my factory so far. I'd definitely do things very differently if I tried again.

https://youtu.be/f5AOlsQCzeQ << Recent upload. Might not be done processing yet.

    Challenge:

    1. Record a time lapse of your base. Use the same aspect ratio screenshots for the entire challenge. (whatever aspect ratio you want.)
    2. Keep your entire base (stray powerpoles&radars included) in your time-lapse.
    3. Avoid building outside of the screenshots because it will need to zoom out more.
    4. Expand to new resources or chokepoints as needed, but it expands your screenshot.
    5. Have fun with your base designs

I'm using this time lapse mod. https://mods.factorio.com/mod/TLBE
Choose whatever map settings you want to.
    I chose default death world.
Help yourself to any mods you wish.

I used miniloaders and nanobots to compensate for deathworld.
Note* your time lapse wont look as cool with mods like Factorissimo.

I've had a bunch of fun on this playthrough and I've learned a lot.

    Stuff I've learned.

    1. Expanding horizontally is much easier than expanding vertically to avoid zooming out.
    2. Placing radars far beyond where I planned on building were useful, but messed with the time lapse and not worth it.
    3. Once you're base has expanded far enough, use concrete patterns to highlight areas of your factory
    4. Clarify where your rail lines are, I didn't realize how hard mine are to see until making this video.
    5. With default resource settings it's easy to get mined out and forced to expand further out than necessary.

Have fun with it. I'm excited to see people's designs.

Has anyone ever started a megabase before you launched your first rocket in that game?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2021 07:30 AM PST

Because I'm trying to do this and it's actually frustrating but it's fun.

    Jump Start Mega Base

    Jump Start Mega Base

Every time i start a new world in factorio i always get stuck on the begging, because theres too much to decide, planning my base, plastic, oil, sulfur, greens and reds. I figured that the jump start base (JSB for short) by u/NilausTV is a great way to start, since the main objective is building a base that builds the base that builds the Mega Base. The mall concept is quite unique but have some attributes in common with the JSB, therefore i tried my best to put some of the most useful items from the mall together with the original design. I added red belts in the productivity line, engines, pumps, chemical plants, logic circuits, military science and more. i'd love to get some feedback as i'm a new player and am always trying to improve my skills and designs. Thank you for your time and for the feedback.

Put this at the start of your game and use the upgrade planner to downgrade furnaces and inserters and chests, if you will.

    I fixed Belt weaving :)

    Core mining

My setup for core mining in space exploration mod. Love the mod so far! A bit curious on how you guys get rid of water produced? I burn it in boiler to power 9 radar (independent power) (located on the top right).
