My base in a no biter world to get better and growing the factory

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 01:41 AM PST

Being able to snap blueprints to a grid and rotate on a player determined point are such convenient and time-saving features for rails. Thanks Wube!

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 06:36 AM PST

And it's easy to implement, I was able to update my rail blueprint book in less than 10 minutes.

    Confused about long-distance bot behaviour

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 05:40 AM PST

I blueprinted a mining/smelting outpost quite a bit away from the main base. And waited for my bots to build it. And waited and waited and waited...

Turns out the bots can't reach it, even though the logistic network goes all the way to it.

    Picture: https://ibb.co/cbF45XJ

Outpost in the bottom left. At the oil unloading there's a roboport, circled. I found a huge amount of my bots just going back and forth between the two circles. They recharge at the roboport, then they go full speed south-west until the other red circle, which is a distance of about 8 big electric poles. There their energy is apparently drained and they start slouching back to the roboport. And then it repeats.

Why? It's not THAT far, why is their energy drained so quickly? And fine, if the distance to travel straight is too far without recharging, why not follow the roboports north around the lake? Bad bots.

I even tried placing a Robocharger (a mod, it isn't a roboport, it just charges them) at the southwest circle, but the bots just ignore it and head back to the roboport.

I want to understand the issue and how I can fix it...

Game feels like it’s progressing slowly, unsure of what to do next

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 04:57 AM PST

Hey all I'm a new Factorio player and the game is intriguing but I'm finding myself unsure of what to do and what I should be focusing on at this point.

I started out by following all the steps in this guide: https://wiki.factorio.com/Tutorial:Quick_start_guide

After that I spent some time figuring out how to automate green science which I'm proud of myself for.

But now it feels like my base is pretty self contained and I'm just waiting around for research to complete. With the red and green sciences it seems like a pretty automated process other than pressing "T" to assign a new research.

I don't feel like I've advanced to any new tiers, I'm not coming across anything that can be crafted which I don't already have the resources for in abundance, everything that feels like it needs to be automated is automated.

I've advanced a bunch of military research branches but so far haven't dealt with a single Biter attack. I explored a bit and found a few bases nearby but it seems I am well protected by a pretty heavy forest. In any case they haven't shown any interest in me.

I guess I'm just kind of lost on what the next step is or what I should be trying to upgrade. The factory seems to work fine.

Sending logistic network contents to circuit network?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 09:59 AM PST

I'm trying to use a roboport to send the current amount of stone in my logistic network to a decider combinator, but I can't seem to make it work. I think I'm misunderstanding how to use signals. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Any good mod suggestions?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 09:52 AM PST

Hi, I am new to Factorio and I just wanted to know if there are some good mods which can help a bit with UI and other QoL factors as it is getting a bit overwhelming for me.

(Also, how do I install those mods? I have bought the game on Steam.)

How should I deal with the biters

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 01:21 AM PST

I am moments away from crafting the silo on my first real playthrough but the biters keep destroying everything i know and love. I probably dont have good enough defences and need a quick fix. Any suggestions?

You all make it seem so easy

    Posted: 02 Dec 2020 07:41 AM PST

I've been lurking here for a while and I finally saw enough new belt organizing methods and train layouts to inspire me to start my first factory on 1.0 since it has been a while since I played. I thought things were going pretty smoothly until I started developing Chemical and Military science packs and then I realized I had built spaghetti...

I am still having fun with it but man, not having spaghetti requires more planning than I anticipated.
