Why I restarted after 20 hours or things I wish I had known before starting Posted: 06 Sep 2020 05:24 AM PDT Firstly, I want to thank the creators of Factorio because the game is amazing :D I am playing a default game. I pushed myself into a corner where I didn't have time to fix any problems because biters overrun me from every direction. I realised I can't progress when I had oil, robots and laser turrets but couldn't create any lasers because I messed up refineries and run short of batteries. The attacks were so infrequent at the beginning that I've put a couple of turrets, wall and a roboport for repairs at each of my three outposts. Hover, I thought it is OK to ignore spawners. Oh boy, was I wrong! At first, it was OK and the turrets were doing OK but suddenly they started getting through walls, destroying turrets and I couldn't keep up resupplying. I never automated regular turrets and when I saw I can't produce lasers I just gave up. Before I would clear all spawners nearby, my factory would get decimated. Things I'd like to know before: - leave roads for driving (at some point it becomes the dominant way of transportation) - do not connect all roboports or your robots will start flying waaaay too far - automate not only ammo but also turret production, I still need to figure a way to transport ammo and turrets to outposts via the same trains as ore - clear spawners on the edge of your pollution and build there at least fragments with walls and turrets so they don't recolonize - cars and tanks have trunks so you can have multiple loaded with stuff to do specific thing (like setting an outpost) - cover everything with radars because you can see spawners from map view with radars. What kind/Size of train do you use?/ is best to use? Posted: 06 Sep 2020 01:47 AM PDT Hi all I've been pondering this question for awhile I'm nearing the end of my modded mega base (mainly bobs mods, hell ovens and deep mining mods) and I use trains to bring in tier one products and some other items (Green,Red and blue chips) that are made in satellite factories. I use a train consisting of one engine and eight wagons always all the same product in each wagon. But is this the best? Would it be faster to use two power cars or maybe less wagon? What do you use and what is the best setup for train consists you have used? And what would you suggest on a whole new mega base? [link] [comments] |
