Seeing the factory for the trees

    Trees are friends

    Jungle factory

I'm working on a new base - I've crash landed on Endor, the forest moon, and I'll be trying to get myself out of here with as little disruption as possible.

    Map settings:

    • 600% trees, scale and coverage
    • 600% cliffs, scale and coverage
    • 33% water scale, 50% water coverage
    • 600% moisture, +0.35 bias
    • Enemies default
    • Resource richness turned up a bunch so I didn't need to spend so much time creating new outposts.

    Rules:

    • Cliffs can absolutely never be destroyed.
    • Water can absolutely never be landfilled.
    • Trees must be respected as much as possible - they can be removed, but removal must be kept to a minimum.
    • All buildings must be separated by at least one tree - no adjacent buildings (I bent this rule a little for furnaces).
    • Tree removal for belts is frowned upon - use undergrounds as much as possible to keep trees alive.
    • Trees die from pollution, so pollution must be kept to a minimum. Convert to solar as early as possible. Use only level 1 assemblers and slow inserters, as they are more power efficient. Use efficiency modules wherever possible.

How I just managed to quit factorio and not get addicted

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:22 AM PDT

Here is a little story about factorio in my life: So at the start of quarantine, I planned to make this a very productive time. I wanted to exercise daily, do work that has to be done, read some books that I "didn't have time to do" before etc. But then, after some time, when I thought I managed to establish new habits and a nice lifestyle...I found factorio. And as you can already think: My plans simply VANISHED. Just after automating blue science for the first time and even forgetting to do some assignments, I knew one thing: If I wanted to get back to "normal life", I had to compensate factorio to a minimum or quit the game for good. The first option simply wasn't feasible, so I decided to play until I launched that fishy into space (satellite is boring ;) ) and get back to my good habits. (these are screenshots of my base: https://imgur.com/a/RYvFIC1 just if you are curious, but its a bit confusing, eg. replaced purple science with low-density structure production in the end etc.) By this post, I don't want to criticize factorio being a bad and addictive game, but I want everyone to know, that you shouldn't let factorio take over your time, and either compensate and control the playtime or quit this game if you can't control yourself. As a wise man once said: Let there be games IN your life, but don't let them BE your life. PEACE!

Working with LTN non-unique station name update?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:28 AM PDT

In one of the most recent updates to Logistic Train Network, it removed the requirement that all stations have unique names, by routing to a temporary location directly under the station in question first.

While renaming stations when creating them is annoying, I've come to realise it was actually rather useful in preventing them from operating immediately without some manual reconfiguration, giving me time to change the request combinator to the appropriate material, etc.

The new system has led to more than a few incidents where I'm not fast enough and it requests the wrong materials, or due to a duplicate station name, it gets a delivery intended for somewhere else.

I can't immediately think of a good way of managing this; any blueprint is either going to have the previous station's request values, or will be blank and updating a combinator from map-view is a pain. Plus, the station will need to be (re)named anyway for sanity's sake, so it isn't really saving much.

Any thoughts? How are other people dealing with it?

    First vanilla game

Finished my first vanilla game, unfortunately not in the 15hr time frame (18ish hrs).I of course had a blast (pun intended).

Thought I'd show you my spaghetti base, next time I am definitely turning off those cliffs. For my next games I'm considering either going for the under 8/15 hours or playing a game with mods, I haven't decided yet. Anything that you guys recommendend?

    So I have this problem.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:48 AM PDT

After 18.21 update, I had a problem with my save. I even downgraded both Factorio itself and mods I have been using. But still, that one save when I try to load it, progress bar fills, but game doesn't start, and after a long time it gives an error with creating texture. Any one of you had that problem before?

Worms are the bane of my existence.

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 08:07 PM PDT

I don't really have a way to screenshot my frustration but I hope I can describe what my issue is well enough here.

I go on biter nest raids with laser turrets and they typically can decimate nests in seconds (including the big worms). However, when my laser turrets kill a big worm while it is preparing to spit at them, it will still follow through with the animation, then die afterwards, usually killing a turret. Is this part of the design and meant to be this way? Has anyone else experienced this before?

It's not the biggest issue in the world and there are probably bigger priorities but this would definitely be a QoL fix for me. Love you devs, you guys have made an amazing game that continues to grow....just like the factory.

TIL if you shift copy a assembler onto a requester chest it requests all inputs.
