    This is how I feel when I messed up my steam pipe line...

    The Devs are truly awesome (Spiff. Co Multiplayer)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 03:38 AM PST

    As i'm sure some of you are aware (it was number 1 on youtube gaming) The Spiffing Brit had a Factorio Multiplayer game yesterday.

    After 3 or 4 unsuccessful attempts to get a server of 500 started, the game devs stepped into get the official incrementing limit server started.

    They stayed around until 1am local time to keep the server alive, until we eventually killed it.

    Thankyou devs for being awesome <3

    Tip: Holding shift while in zoomed in in the map view will prevent zooming out to radar level.

    TIL: If you run over resources on the ground marked for deconstruction, you will automatically pick them up!

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 06:03 AM PST

    I was running around placing new radars, and kept running into rocks. So I decided to start deconstructing them. Some of the rocks were the coal rocks, so when your bot picks it up, coal will be on the ground, handily marked for deconstruction. I decided to run near it to be nice to my bots, and accidentally got too close, and saw that half the coal was picked up. I tried it again, and could pick up all the coal without ever touching the 'F' key. Over 2000 hours and still learning new things.

    My first megabase: 2700 SPM

    Two years ago, I came across a Let's Play of Xterminator. It haunted me in my dreams. Even before I actually started playing Factorio, I was already planning my megabase. Who cares about sending one measly rocket into space? We want more!

    Here you can see my first attempt at building a megabase. Does it work? Yes. Is it perfect? Hell no. Although I "finished" it quite a while ago, I've been fixing one problem after the other. At this point, the factory runs like a well-oiled machine for 15 minutes before it starts running into its first problems ;-)

    The megabase is built using the 'Train Supply Manager' mod. Trains are loaded and sent to a supply station, where they wait until a request comes in. Sending trains on demand avoids traffic jam headaches. Furthermore, goods that are highly related are produced at the same site. For example, all iron products like steel, yellow belts, gear wheels and engines are produced in my 'Iron Factory'.

    What are the remaining problems?

    1. It's not expandable!
    2. There's not enough room between the different sites.
    3. The iron and copper supply is quite low

    I thought long and hard to come up with this design. Now that I've built it, I would do it completely different. But despite that I'm proud of it just the way it is!

    What's the worst belt accident you've ever caused?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:43 PM PST

    I accidentally contaminated a firearm magazine belt with coal for some reason. No bullets were produced for quite some time. By the time I realized I had run out of ammo, a considerably large swarm of biters had gotten through my defenses. The damage to my base was catastrophic and I rage quit.

    Can someone tell me the correct train signal configuration if I want to have trains going both ways on the track? Right now I'm just living on the edge and hoping nothing gets hit.

    Game challenges?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:19 AM PST

    After getting all the achievements in factorio (except the speedrun ones) I've run out of things to do. I've tried some of the other game modes but I really love sandbox, so I tried a sandbox related challenge where you make the sides infinite but the top and bottom have about five-ten spaces. Challenges like that are fun, I was wondering if you gents had other challenges like so?

    We are falling back again

    We are falling back again

    First of all you should understand how the steam rating algorythm works. You can read a long explenation here or just have a look at the formula below:

    Total Reviews = Positive Reviews + Negative Reviews

    Review Score = Positive Reviews / Total Reviews

    Rating = Review Score - (Review Score - 0.5)*2^{-log_{10}(Total Reviews + 1)}

    As of the picture from this post (that was taken on the 02. January I guess) the Witcher 3 had a Rating of 96.918326 %. Factorio therefore needed at least 459 additional positive reviews to the 65005 it already had to top that:

    Total Reviews = 65464 + 904 = 66368

    Review Score = 65464 / 66368 = 98.63790 %

    Rating = 98.63790 % - (98.63790 % - 0.5)*2^{-log_{10}(66368 + 1)} = 96.918333 %

    When I checked yesterday (03. January, 17:42h) Factorio had gained significantly and needed only 380 additional reviews to top the rating of the Witcher, that had risen to 96.922668 % at that point. As you can see this was caused by a huge spike of positive reviews after the post mentioned above.

    Factorio recent reviews (blue = positive, red = negative). Huge spike on 2. and 3. January

    Total Reviews = 65725 + 906 = 66631

    Review Score = 65725 / 66631 = 98.64027 %

    Rating = 98.64027 % - (98.64027 % - 0.5)*2^{-log_{10}(66631 + 1)} = 96.922670 %

    But right now (04. January, 14:12h) the rating of the Witcher 3 has risen even further to 96.931804 % and Factorio can't keep up any more. At least 496 additional positive reviews are necessary to reach the second place again.

    https://preview.redd.it/dqk9h8lkkr841.jpg?width=906&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5997f2b44b39ea9d9e3fe2fceb36c5f4d4cc558c

    Total Reviews = 66060 + 906 = 66966

    Review Score = 66060 / 66966 = 98.64707 %

    Rating = 98.64707 % - (98.64707 % - 0.5)*2^{-log_{10}(66966 + 1)} = 96.931823 %

    I think it is unrealistic atm for Factorio to gain more positive reviews than the Witcher 3. The only hope left is the end of the christmas hollidays.

    The Witcher 3 recent reviews. Significant rise during the christmas hollidays
