Looking for new person to take charge of the Aircraft mod Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:13 AM PST Some of you may be familiar with the Aircraft mod, but for those of you who aren't, it's basically cars with no collision, big guns, big grids, and big speed. Anyways, I'm posting because it's been quite a long time since I've worked on any new features for the mod other than just porting and bugfixing. I never really had much experience in modding in the first place, so it's pretty slapped together, even by my standards. I've fallen out of love for Factorio after about a thousand hours, so I feel it's unfair for people who love this mod to be restricted by my inattention. For this reason, I'd love to find someone who is actually engaged enough to keep working on it. Due to my inexperience with any form of scripting or code work in general, there are definitely some fixer-upper parts. For example, if your aircraft is destroyed over water, you'll be kicked to the main menu. Couldn't figure out how to listen for that event. There's also been lots of feature requests that I am just unable to do, such as the long-and-often-requested airport system, or a remote to call a plane to you. It's unfair to all the people who love this mod that their wonderful ideas fall upon someone who just isn't interested enough to implement them anymore. If you're interested in taking up the mantle, just either leave a reply here or PM me on the forums, here on reddit, or Discord (Thomas#9338). If you have any prior experience, please do mention it, however none is required. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jan 2020 04:27 AM PST A few years ago i was quite infor factorio playing with Will live and on Xterms server, I sorta grew away from it but before i did i played a few times with my dad and showed the the basic premise of the game, WE played a few more times but stopped playing and moved onto other games for our gaming nights But he kept going on his own worlds, To this day he has still been playing with i think 6 total worlds, He did almost stop once before... that was until i told him about mega-bases... It kept him up most nights and was something he would always turn to play, even if it meant he stopped playing elite: dangerous. He thinks after 6 factories his time playing is over (We have yet to see if he goes back to it), But this was properbly the first game I got my dad to sit down an play in his spare time. Some advice to those wanting to get a parent addicted to a game, if their into puzzles, Factorio is the game for them. My dad doesn't have reddit, I Might send him a link to the the thread however, I'll reply to comments when i get the time however TL:DR - I got my Dad addicted to facotro. [link] [comments]

Inspired by a post from someone about their 9/10 year old playing!~ Posted: 27 Jan 2020 10:18 PM PST I saw a post a little while ago about someone's son I think 9 or 10 who was hooked and got up to blue science with no help. So I tried introducing my daughter to Factorio and she didn't really bite. Fast forward to today, she's sitting next to me watching the bots build things for me and asks..... "If the point of the game is to automate everything.....Then once you have robots, why do you still play it?" I had to laugh. [link] [comments]
Any advice for a new player on not restarting? Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:58 AM PST I have probably fifty hours in the game and have restarted four times. It seems like I get to a point where everything I have set up is just inefficient and I get the idea in my head it's easier to start fresh than tear down and rebuild everything. Usually this happens when I get to blue science packs. So yeah, any advice? Edit: Thanks for all the replies! I posted this before work and will check them all out when I get home. Posted: 27 Jan 2020 11:26 AM PST Would you guys be interested in a reddit factory? As far as mods and settings we can choose by vote and have some fun. My computers always on so I could host if there's interest. [link] [comments]
Is there any benefit to using a solid fuel powered steel furnace? Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:57 AM PST I have an excess of light oil, which I can use to make solid fuel for a new smelting section. However, I don't think I've ever heard of people using solid fuel in steel furnaces over electric furnaces. I know it would be nice use of the excess light oil, but I'm curious as so why I don't see other people using anything other than coal in steel furnaces or just electric furnaces over steel. Recommend mods after Industrial Revolution Posted: 28 Jan 2020 06:51 AM PST With the update to 0.18 IR is no longer supported :( IR was my first dip into moded factorio. I would like to start some new mods supported in 0.18 but not sure which. I don't want something EXTREMELLY complex. Can someone give me a mod rank by complexity? I think I'll throw Space exploration into the mod pack as an endgame since it looks unique and fun. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2020 02:12 AM PST I have terrible eyes and reading small font hurts really bad. I currently do 175% UI and it's playable but like 80% of the info is cut off. Is there a mod that just makes the text larger? also 100% is insanely small, do any of you actually play that? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jan 2020 10:54 PM PST Hey all, was wondering for awhile about renaming trains etc and how there are not really any simplified non-mod solutions, at least that I have found. I am sure the mods work great but not when you want to keep the achievements going (for some crazy reason I want to play completely vanilla and not break that for my current mega base). Yesterday I learned where the names are kept. I decided that I wanted to name my trains for certain jobs with certain themes (iron trains with one set of names, like wrestlers, then copper might be superheroes, oil friends etc etc). I started manually changing them but found the one at a time copy and paste or typing them in and maneuvering around the formatting was cumbersome and I would forget if I added a name already etc. Haven't done any programming in years, and wondered if I could still even do basic things so I thought I would give it a go. Turns out I can. https://imgur.com/a/U72Vhdf I wrote a small java program quickly that will take a plain text list and simply format it to fit Factorio's requirements. I wrote it as an experiment for myself, but then thought others may enjoy it as well. So I spent an extra bit of time putting in some instructions and error handling etc. If you run the program once it will generate a file in the same directory with directions. At minimum at that point you just need your plain text list, and to fill in one field pointing to it in the created instruction document. Once created, you just have to place the file in the proper location, and any new randomly named entities you place will draw from the list you created. I do recommend you back up the original list in case you want to go back to it for whatever reason. It will be possible to break it and make it crash etc, so don't expect a fully polished experience, as stated it was a fun little project just to see if i could. It literally just reformats the list to save you the grunt work. I put in some error handling but I am sure there are lots of ways to break it, if you actively look for them. but it gets the job done. Based on discussions I have seen in the past I thought maybe a few people might enjoy this simple way to personalize their world more. If this is against the rules my apologies. If a mod wants to check out the source code that would be fine by me. I dropped it here: https://gofile.io/?c=j1Nqd7 It should be fairly self explanatory, but I will be happy to answer any questions after I get some sleep (1:30 AM now :/) Thanks ..... fyi: Here is everything it does with your system: 2 files created: instruction / control and the formatted list. 2 files read: instruction / control file and the list you point it to. 1 file deleted: The formatted list file is automatically deleted if the program does not finish writing to it (basically in the event it cannot find / access the list you point it to). That's it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:32 AM PST Hello guys, I've got a short question. How does the multiplayer work if I host a game (2 friends want to join) and I have mods. Does factorio auto install them? Is there even a need to download the mods? Or do they have to search up every mod and download it to be able to play with me? Thank you! [link] [comments]

Anybody know what potential plans there are for Industrial Revolution mod going forward? Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:02 PM PST I have a private server running this mod with a friend and we love this mod. It's a staple for our experience. The sudden drop of support for the mod is extremely vexing. I wish it had never come out at all so I wouldn't have had the now displeasure of falling in love with it. 4 months and the mod maker just bailed completely without anybody to pass the torch to? /Frustrated rant over. I did read somewhere that there was some possibility that the code could be continued, but that the graphics would need to be redone because they'd be covered by the license. I don't know all of the legality. Has anybody been able to reach out to Deadlock989 at all or is there any conversation going on anywhere about continuation of the mod? It's a godamn shame to see it just die so suddenly. Talk about a flash in the pan. Also as a side point, trying to read up on what happened it sounds like he wanted to get paid for the mod and didn't like people streaming? I feel like whatever happened became a giant mess that didn't need to go that way. Why didn't he setup a Patreon? Why did he disable all the rest of his mods? Do. Not. Understand. Also as far as legality goes, can a creative license really be applied directly to something that depends on another owner's IP? Nothing that Deadlock created can function without the direct consent and reliance on creative property owned by Wube Software LTD. If your own product is essentially a sanctioned modification of another person's IP how can you copyright it? I think that a lawyer could easily make the case that all permitted modifications made to their game are not the sole property of the modifier. I recall Minecraft having a similar issue with some of their mod makers with the villages, and it was a big problem for a while. Can't remember what happened though. Anyways just throwing this stuff out there because I'm very interested in seeing this mod get carried over to future updates and it's absolutely frustrating to see this piece of art get thrown into public view only to be yanked away completely for god knows why. EDIT: Also here is a link to the mod itself for the curious: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/IndustrialRevolution [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2020 12:43 AM PST When I play factorio and earn achievement the characteristic sound and icon of factorio achievement pops up but these achievements doesn't show in my steam achievement list Is anything that I'm doing wrong (not playing with cheats eneabled so achievements aren't turned off by the game ) (also sorry for my terrible English ) [link] [comments]
