    Weird Intersection

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 04:27 AM PST

I """"finished"""" factorio yesterday, and now I'm returning to the real world. A goodbye note to my belowed friends and family.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:23 AM PST

I have came to the conclusion that me playing factorio and me having a life can't coexist. I have found my heroine. Therefore my first rocket will be my last.

There are these few moments in a life where you know the decision you make will impact you forever. This time I have been lucky enough to realize that it is such a moment before it has gone by. For every belt, there is a path, and in every new science, there is a project. This game has thought me to not be scared when jumping into bigger projects, and in every try, failed or finished, you can draw wisdom for your next step towards your goal.

You must all know that this is not your fault. You were the ones that kept me going, but for once, I got to be selfish and do what's best for me. Thanks for everything.

How to get enough sleep guide

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:16 AM PST

Welcome to guide on how to sleep!

im not gonna make introduction long, so here we go!

    Solution

    1. don't get addicted to factorio.
    2. in case point one fails, ask a friend or family member to cut off the power to your computer
    3. if you don't have any friends or family members (very likely), use microsoft family screen time, and set limit to 10-11pm.
    4. DON'T watch factorio videos on your phone or use steam play for god's sake!

If everything fails uninstall factorio and never play it again

It is already too late for me... don't fall into this trap like i did, at least this can help new ones

edit: for mac users there is built in screen time, for linux you can install one here: https://www.fossmint.com/timekpr-revived-parental-control-app-for-linux/

    [Help please] I'm stressed out

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:53 AM PST

EDIT: Bilka helped me out. Problem solved for now.
The problem was that the server was running at 60 UPS while some of the players could only do 50~ish. Thats why the game-server was "running" away ...

Reaching for straws here but maybe somebody is able to pinpoint the problem and help me out here.

The Factorio Charity Event [The Big Twenty] is starting this friday 29th of november. The Goal is to handcraft 20.000.000 green circuits as a community.I've spend the last couple of weeks creating a neat map where we can do exactly that. Each player has his/her own "handcrafting room" where he or she has an unlimited supply of iron and copper plates so each of us can participate, handcraft green circuits and send them on the way to the main storage area.

The map runs smoothly (50fps/50ups) when in singleplayer. But in multiplayer? It's a nightmare!

    a) People who try to join 'Can't catch up' unless the game is paused

    b) Once people connected, there are 3 possible outcomes:

    1. 4-8 FPS with ~50-60 UPS
    2. Game runs nicely at 40-60FPS and 50-60UPS but there's like 1 huge spike every few seconds where the FPS drow to about 4-8 again while the UPS stays constant.
    3. The game runs perfectly fine at 60FPS/60UPS

I thought: 'Maybe there's just too much stuff going on at the map' so I tuned it down, removed parts of the map reduced the number of belts (from like 100.000+ to only a few thousands) but still the performance did not improve at all...

Well to make it short I am completly lost and at the point where I fear to start from scratch. So my hope is that somebody here can take a look at the map and the debug mode and maybe find the problem or can tell me what exactly is going on here and why this save games behaves that strangly? I am almost certain there must be some sort of performance bug or sth else because this just feels so strange and bad ...

So I would highly, highly appreachiate any tips and help! You can find the map here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PMdQk82u2a6N_db6tzyhl1KTLxFVKGR7/view?usp=sharing

As I said the map runs nicely in singleplayer but once its hosted it all falls apart ... :l

Thanks guys ... hope somebody can help me out here and save the charity event =/

How can I prevent this from happening?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:22 AM PST

Why do you use active providers?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 03:03 AM PST

The only situation I can imagine where active providers are required is if you have a gigantic bot-based barreled fluid system and you always need space available for empty barrels so the fluid keeps flowing.

Why do you use active providers as opposed to requester-passive provider pairs?

Are you guys all playing in Sandbox mode or what?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 06:16 AM PST

I see people with huge massive factorys and I've only managed to get big by playing with 'peaceful mode' on. What is mode is everyone playing in?

Is it reccommended to play in sandbox mode first to get to grips with layouts etc? Because I'm having to rebuild a lot in order to find a decent set up. Also, for me, the fun of factorio is building a symetrical beautiful factory so the randomness of the normal mode maps arn't great.

    Oppinions please! :)

    p.s the factory must grow

So I discovered this game two days ago

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 03:37 PM PST

I played the demo and found the hours were slipping by as I was hooked to the many chores of improving my setup and making new items. Realising it had hooked me I bought the full version.

Over the last three days I've discovered many times I'm doing things completely inefficiently and so started afresh in a new world. In any other game this would be a sign of a quitter and bad, but in this one it's very rewarding having a fresh start realising the potential of each component.

I finally understand why buses are so important and I can't believe I failed to use splitters until now! It's so satisfying and rewarding to see your factory processing. Love this game!

    Train stops with duplicate names?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:20 AM PST

I read somewhere that if you have multiple train stops with the exact same any trains with them in their list will use both.

Could I exploit this by just having all my copper ore mines have a generic names and have a central drop off location? Or would all of them pile up on the same mine closest to my hub?

I would try it first and tell later but I dont want to deal with a MASSIVE traffic jam
