    Intelligent Bot Mod Idea?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:53 AM PST

So me and my friends have put countless hours into survival games like ark, rust, conan exiles ect. The thing that makes all those games so gripping to us is being able to raid other players to gain resources/supplies and defend our own base against other players. I know factorio has some pretty nice pvp modes for that but its hard to find pvp servers or people to do it so often at any givin time. Im not sure how hard or possible it would be but i think it would be amazing if not the best mod in my opinion to see a Player like bot that mines resources and builds factory's and occasionally trys to raid you like the ai does in Subsistence. I think this would be a great mod in every scenario. If anyone has any thoughts on this or could possibly make this happen let me know in the comments.

Simple, no combinator, optimised Kovarex processing

Simple, no combinator, optimised Kovarex processing

It's an amusing exercise trying to restrict Kovarex centrifuges to 40 U235 rather than an entirely unnecessary 80. It recently occurred to me this ought to be possible without the need for combinators or cunning tricks depending on quirks of inserter behaviour. Behold! U238 input is on the lower belt; U235 output is on the upper belt.

    1. This is my "primer", the inserter removes U235 to the chest until there are 40 U235 in the chest. Once full, it's a simple matter to remove the inserter and chest and have just enough U235 to start the next centrifuge.
    2. This is just a conduit to transfer U235 and U238 to (3) after the cycle completes.
    3. The inserter below transfers U235 and U238 to the centrifuge iff there is a single U235 in chest (4).
    4. This chest holds a single U235 while the centrifuge is being reloaded.
    5. This chest is limited to 3 U238. The inserter above has its stack size limited to 1.
    6. This filter inserter transfers a single U235 from chest (3) to chest (4) iff chest (4) is empty.
    7. This inserter transfers the single U235 from chest (4) to the output belt iff chest (3) is empty of U235.

I'm rather proud of this one.

View overall demand for a specific item?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:56 PM PST

    Hi all,

I'm wanting to design a factory that somewhat emulates real life. Basically I want to set up a lot of "mini factories", each producing their own item, that are then transported to a central depot area. I will be using trains to transport the items around, with each mini-factory having it's own station for both pick up and drop off of necessary items.

However one glitch in this, as far as I can tell there is no way to see the overall demand for a specific item. Let's take Iron Gear Wheels for example. I might have one mini-factory making yellow belts, another making red belts. The yellow belt factory might need 10 gears per second, while the red belt factory needs 20 per second. So I need to then ensure my gear factory is making 30 gears per second.

Is there a way, either in game or via mod, to view the overall, factory wide demand for specific items?

Anyone else split up their turf into nations?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 06:45 PM PST

Cause I have for a while and I love it lol. I've been strategically annexing plots of land from the zergs, in particular lage plots surrounded by lakes. My 0.17 world has a shit ton more and a shit ton bigger water bodies than my first 0.16 world so I pretty much only build walls from sea to sea.

I just finished claiming a big new chunk to the south with a lot of resources. I called it Texas and everything inside it has Texas somewhere in the name, like the Houston Stone Mine or Texas Exports (the train station that will export everything mined there). I couldn't claim it for MONTHS because I hadn't explored far enough to find a strip short enough for a wall segment. I just hate wasting resources on walling when I have all these lakes around. Lakes don't waste ammo. My military tech was not up to par for comfortable exploration at the time, and even when I did get cannon shells, rockets, artillery shells, and all kinds of turrets on assembly lines it still took me three whole days to pesticide and secure the area. Well I had robots build the walls, but I got counter-raided at least twice in the process.

    Item ordering in menus

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:28 AM PST

Ok, so I am trying to put a quick personal mod together to reorder the icons in the item and recipe selectors for pyanadon as I keep looking in the wrong places for some stuff (i.e. they moved science packs to Coal Processing and I want to move it back to Intermediate Products). I have figured out how to move the icons to the page I want (blatant plagiarism of ShinyIcons), but I can't figure out how the ordering within the page works. I have looked through the modding pages of the wiki, but I cant find a reference to how the ordering of items work.

Does anyone have a reference as to how the item ordering works?

improved 48 lane train station, now with full compression!

    https://preview.redd.it/wvd37ygvna041.jpg?width=1216&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e00aeee924a419ff8c465828d764c20332e2f4a2

Hi again guys, thanks to all of your feedback on my last post. Lots of good ideas there to get my belts fully compressed and I tried out a few of those.

The problem: 12 fast inserters are close to but not quite fast enough to compress 4 blue belts when unloading directly onto them.

    solution 1:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/dza0py/48_lane_train_station/f86d0ar

the issue with this solution is that it doesn't draw equally from all buffer chests causing train unloading to take longer, too long in fact and the overall througput was worse. solution 2 doesn't have this problem and is in theory even capable of more throughput (up to 6 belts per wagon).

    solution 2:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/avfk21/belt_loading_tricks_with_the_new_017_belt_speed

without further do, here's my new design with 48 fully compressed belts: imgur link because reddid only supports GIF up to 100Mb in size

sorry for potato quality, but I wanted the whole unloading sequence in one gif while keeping it small enough to post anywhere
