    Is there a mod that makes some form of WH40K spacerines to wage war on the xeno? It seems apt.

    Like colonial army, but more 40K skinned.

    Hi all,

    Played a small amount in single-player (~150 hours), launched a rocket etc. Would love to setup or join a new MP game. Don't have anyone IRL I know who plays, but would love a casual game with ... someone.

    How do I go about finding games etc? Had a quick look in 'Browse public games', but struggled.

    Advice or invitations appreciated!

    Finished my deathworld marathon run after 157 hours of grueling fun

    By finished i mean "launched a rocket", i could've continued expanding and scaling up but kinda had enough of factorio for couple months. Don't really know why i'm posting this, maybe to find some friends in misery? I'm not really that good and i bet plenty people finished this in far less time, i just thought i'd challenge myself after finishing the game once and damn that was a challenge.

    here's what i learned:

    • roll the map, without a close-by (even tiny) patch of oil and iron it's almost impossible, also look for lots of trees
    • automation -> gun turrets -> walls, i failed a few attempts before i went for full aggro mode
    • manage pollution from first minutes, it's fine to just have 2-3 miners even if you're spending a fortune to make a single gear, trees are quite effective when pollution rate is low
    • prioritize projectile damage early game, without it you will literally run out of iron by shooting it out of gun turrets
    • stone tends to disappear like crazy due to military science, be sure to look out for expansions
    • go solar early, i almost ruined the game by sticking to coal/solid fuel, had a save with 5 minutes until unrecoverable power outage disaster (all defenses were laser turrets and you're attacked non-stop), somehow managed to stop producing anything but solar panels and accumulators and saved the game by the skin of my teeth
    • biters and spitters hurt, especially early game, had to build whole perimeter like this:

       <biters here> +--- ---+--- ---+ + ----- + ----- + +--- ---+--- ---+ ================= <turrets here> 

      otherwise spitters destroy everything and you're 100% in crisis mode frantically running around repairing shit

    • flamethrower turrets were first turning point in the game, literally could breathe out and relax a bit

    • later game double wall of laser turrets and robo network with repair packs was enough to stop caring about biters, only getting out to clear up space for expansions was an issue, lots of tanking, can't really go around the spawns because of enemy density

    • artillery made things easier

    • nukes finally made the game fun, there's special pleasure in watching spawns disappear after that many hours of constant struggle

    Appreciation Post

    I'm an intermediate EE student and one of my classes this semster is Digital Logic, and I'm blown away at all the lessons and concepts that transfer over to Factorio. These devs have done an outstanding job and I couldn't possibly thank them enough. For example, a super basic concept is digital i/o and you can do so many things with that like designing a clock for a latch that'll store information. Personally that's way down the road, but I really hope I can start to grasp the complex logic stuff Factorio has to offer. I would really appreciate if anyone has links to their favorite tutorials!

    Is there a way to only activate the gates when the player is inside the walls? I'm playing around with basic WASD input control and I can't figure this out
