Got a friend that you really want to play with, but they can't afford it and you can't afford to give them a copy? Well, here's your chance to win a free copy. Here's how this will work:

Just want to share a little positivity and encouragement. Posted: 11 Oct 2019 05:48 PM PDT TL;DR - There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's. Er, play factorio. I'm pretty much a casual lurker here, but I do really enjoy the game. I've seen some posts and comments of people saying they are or feel stupid playing because they can't do something as well as some of the really cool and clever stuff they see on here. I'd just like to take a second to address these people and this community about it. This community, from what I've seen, is a really understanding and kind place, especially when compared to many other game forums. So if you have a question, never feel scared to sound dumb because we all were in your shoes at one point or another (I seem to be a permanent resident). Also, remember that it's just a game, don't get worked up over not being as awesome as someone who has 10 - 100 times as many hours in the game. The devs have built in so much flexibility that there are a vast multitude of ways to achieve everything in the game, so if you didn't do it the same exact way as some of the veterans on here, don't beat yourself up. Just have fun with it. There isn't a wrong way to play the game, so just play and learn and have fun! Become one with the spaghetti and you'll have a blast building troubleshooting skills and a factory at the same time! Just wanted to vent some encouragement, that's all 😁 [link] [comments]
Why is the copper so unbalanced in this setup? Posted: 12 Oct 2019 03:02 AM PDT So here's the setup, two red lanes of copper and iron go in, and the bottom copper lane gets starved while the top doesn't. I see no hiccups in the delivery, at the beginning both belts are full and the whole setup is symmetric. Iron is plentiful. Edit: solved, iron pickup was badly managed. [link] [comments]
Do you ever wish you could go back in time Posted: 12 Oct 2019 01:05 AM PDT And play factorio for the first time without the knowledge you have now, just to discover the joy of automation again? [link] [comments]

Factorio is just one more turn, without the turn.... Posted: 11 Oct 2019 10:24 AM PDT Factorio is simply magic. Personally, after 2500+ hours, I can't tell friends what it is that keeps me playing this game over and over and over... I go to play other games (Anno, Minecraft, HOMM to name a few), but my mind is always working on ways to improve my factory in Factorio. It keeps me from playing other games I used to really enjoy. And it's a little sad, because I actually like thinking about these problems and solving them. Ars Technica did an article recently on the Civilization franchise, and one section really emphasized the truth behind Factorio. To quote the interview: "Just one more turn... As with so many other sea changes, the magnitude of the switch wasn't really obvious at the time. But Meier and the rest of the developers realized they had accidentally bottled lightning when early testers kept reporting that they were losing track of time while playing—they got the "I looked up and it was 3am" story from so many testers that the development team put a concerted effort into trying to figure out exactly what they'd managed to create. The crux of the "just one more turn" phenomena, according to Meier, came down to how the game allowed players to structure their own expectations. Whether it's in real-time or chopped up in turns, a game like Civ gives players short-, medium-, and long-term goals to head toward, and there's rarely a moment where you've achieved all of those goals at once. But by quantizing gameplay into distinct turns, Civ provides the illusion that the player isn't that far away from nailing down all the loose ends standing between them and victory. Turns become distinct steps on the road to victory—and once you're into the mid-game of Civ, that victory doesn't seem that many turns away. "You're almost not playing in the moment," Meier told us. "You're playing in the future—and that future is just one more turn ahead." Somehow, somehow... Wube found a way to make this formula work in a real time game. People joke about Factorio being Cracktorio, but it is true. Time passes like nothing when playing this game. So...beginners. I have just discovered fish. Use them. Posted: 11 Oct 2019 11:23 AM PDT If you right click on the shadows in the water you will pick up 5 fish. While you are holding a fish if you left click you will eat the fish and regain a ton of health. With a stack of fish you are absurdly difficult to kill and it makes wiping out bug nests so much easier. Does better tech help too? Yes. Are there tons of amazing and deadly tools you can use later in the game to kill bugs? Yes. But for people like me who sometimes wander in over their head regardless of their weapons, fish are a revelation to me. [link] [comments]

Could you guys give me a progression guide? Posted: 12 Oct 2019 01:03 AM PDT I've attempted new bases quite a few times, but lack the ability to figure out what I should do next. So if one of you could post some general progression guidelines that would be greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments]
