Nothing impressive here, just the setups to make equal amount of each science pack except space

    YOKI!!!

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 08:34 PM PDT

So I made this blue science craft and idk if it's good or nah so I would need help : D if you have any ideas how to make it more compact :D If you wanna copy this design feel free to use it but how I said idk if it's good.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 03:15 AM PDT

Okay okay I changed the design and it looks much better now so it makes more blues etc. If you have any ideas how to improve it even more feel free to type them in comments. And if you wanna use this design then use it :D

I'm afraid to ask but, is there a mod that regenerates trees? As in spawn new ones

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:48 PM PDT

Don't ever relocate your base. This train is massive. 650+ hrs. Worst idea ever. Just installed alien biomes mod and half of everything was destroyed just before the move. Now to clean up back home and then delete the unused chunks. Trying to get out to some larger patches so start from.

Ideas how to make Factorio really difficult

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:52 AM PDT

First of all, of course that Factorio is a hard game. It usually takes tens of hours before a player understands the basics. Many (maybe most) players launch their first rocket after 100 hours, or even more, and their bases are pure spaghetti. Building an efficient train system is also a demanding challenge. So, why do I think that this game should be harder? I would like to point out that the following suggestions are directed towards modders (if any of them are interested in this at all), not game developers - they probably already have plans for the upcoming expansion.

Experienced Factorio players usually install huge modpacks, like B&A or Pyanodons to make the game harder and more complex. It is required to spend hundreds of hours to launch the rocket, and that's why these mods are considered as hardcore mods for veterans. I admire modders a lot and I think that these types of mods are indeed difficult. BUT. For a player with a few hundred or several thousand hours in this game, their difficulty is basically just how many intermediate products are required on the way to the next science pack. These mods are difficult, because they are long. Experienced player knows "templates" like main bus or city block, that makes building a base very repetitive. Another intermediate product means another belt in main bus or block in city block base. Game works like that because there are no ways to lose resources or decrease final efficiency because of bad factory planning. And no way to increase productivity when experienced player build well-conceived factory.

To make Factorio a really difficult game, designs like main bus have to be inefficient. Deciding where individual resources should be produced or transported could be very challenging, and never optimal. So, these are my ideas to achieve this:

-Resources that are vulnerable to time lapse. Some of the items would expire after time and vanish or become other (broken) version of that item. To prevent that, resources of this kind should be transported as quickly as possible. Storing them on overloaded belts also would cause many problems.

-Losses in transmission of electricity depending on distance. One, huge power plant to feed an entire factory would be inefficient.

-Resources that are vulnerable to pollution. Player would have to be more focused on keeping his factory clean, or just produce some resources far from the polluted factory.

-Buildings with limited quantity or their cost growing exponentially. Factory expansion should be unlimited, but some buildings with special recipes or very high effectiveness could be limited.

-Areas that provide higher/lower productivity. I don't know how to make it realistic (it could be for example some kind of sun radiation) but planning a factory around this would be interesting.

-Resources that should be transported in a specific way. For example item that require to be placed on the slowest belt that have as few turns as possible, because every time when it changes direction, there is a small chance that it will be broken.

I don't know how many of these ideas could be possible to implement in mod. But I know that these ideas combined with modpacks that I mentioned before (or other) would be the ultimate challenge for Factorio veterans and masters of logistics and supply chain management. Imagine this: your factory is not only slow and difficult to expand, but also brings losses. Of course, only when you didn't plan it precisely. Sorry for my English btw.

P.S. I know that there are challenges like building computers in Factorio, or trying to build biggest (in term of SPM) base running on 60/60. And they are very interesting and really difficult in many ways.

Occupies a 48x48 grid area around the roboport so you can leave a 2 tile gap between them for moving through.

Generates 7560 KW of solar power on average. Uses 180 solar panels and 151 accumulators.

Huge performance issues on strong computer

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:41 AM PDT

Hi, with linux manjaro latest kernel, amd ryzen 5950x at 35-40°c , rx5700xt X2, 3200mhz ddr4 and cl14, factorio.35, I have some freezes each like 2-4s. freezes are only during 20-300 ms but its really annoying. I tested reinsaling graphics, monitoring kernel laency, advanced gpu datas in game, cpu usage, various kernels with and without RT... tested steam or normal client, all graphic setings at minimum, full screen or not, remoed OC, closed all programs... and now I m out of new things to test so maybe some ppl here got simar issues and can help? Strange things is hl2dm or csgo works like a charm.

My first factory game was dyson sphere program and now I want to try factorio what are some differences and similarities?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:02 PM PDT

As the titles states. I just got into factory games with dyson sphere program (DSP). I never thought I'd fall in love with games like this but I loved dyson sphere program.

I never watched any tutorials on DSP and just played through on my own but I it didn't feel that hard. Like I didnt need to plan ahead cause I had so kuch space cause of multiple planets. It was easy to get resources passed around cause of the logistics towers. I would look at my production nd if I was short iron. I'd fly to and iron patch, mine it, smelt it, and put it in a logistics tower and boom I now have more iron in my facotry without having to do anything else.

I mention this Cause I hear all the time about this "bus" thing. And it seem like a way to get resources around. But anyways that's one example of soemthing I think that will be different. What else do you guys think is similar or different? Or things I should expect!

    Thank you!

I assume it's fine to just write a fanfic and sell it? (good on them, tbh, the more interest the better)

Tips for getting past Blue/Purple science packs?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:42 PM PDT

I've played about 4 different 40-50 hour factories, and they all fall apart at about the same point, no matter how I set up my factory. That point is shortly after ramping up production on blue and purple science. It devolves into spending 100% of my time putting out fires(copper supply ran out, biters a 10 minute walk away, running out of power, bottleneck somewhere upstream of one of my science packs, etc).

I'm remembering back years now, so some of the details are pretty fuzzy.

I've tried centralizing everything, so everything is fed off of one huge copper/iron/coal supply. Everything turned into such a mess that I couldn't figure out wtf was going on.

I tried having all material processing remote, so only processed materials end up at the main factory(either by belts or trains). I spent so much time running to my outpost factories and back that I couldn't accomplish anything.

I tried having separate facilities for each science pack. So I would set up red science to produce XX red science per minute, then move to a completely different iron/copper/coal for green science, and a different one for blue science, etc. Then I would transport them to my science processing area. That also did the same thing of spending more time traveling to fix issues than being productive. As soon as one was up and running, a problem would show up somewhere else.

I'm not sure what else to try, or what step I should be taking that I don't see. Any tips for me?
