One month and 57 hours later, my first casual run is done. This is the first game of this genre I finish and it means so much to me. And I must say that my favorite moment of the game, besides the rocket launch, was making the train routes and train signals work properly all by my self.

Is there a point where a train will go so far its not worth it?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:55 AM PDT

I read some posts about how big people prefer their ore patches with trains. They said that 100M patches are good.

But for me the closest ore patches to me are around 10M. So will the trains have to go so far that its not even worth finding and setting up a mining outpost at a high density ore patch just because its far away?

Theory: Factorio is actually a horror game in disguise

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:51 PM PDT

Just play slightly too zoomed in while working around your train yard unable to pay attention to the map. The near misses will elevate stress levels. The higher braking power research, the better. Nuclear fuel for instant guaranteed cardiac arrest.

I literally jumpscared myself, as in actually jumped in my seat, when a full speed train turned a corner and insta-killed me before I'd processed it was even there.

I have 1000 hours in game but its been probably since 0.17 that I have done a spaghetti-sh vanilla-ish run so I thought I'd do one before I start a megabase. 45 SPM for all except white (no rocket yet) mostly quality of life mods + RSO, biters expansion on etc.

    Uses for polluted water?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:53 AM PDT

So the water pollution seems to be nothing more than aesthetic.

I was thinking there should be some projects that require having polluted water be purified - it makes sense that you can use polluted water for let's say, coal powered plants.

Let's say nuclear plants require that polluted water be purified before it can be used in nuke plants, or the plants suffer productivity issues; ie using untreated water will make the plants work at 75% efficiency, whereas treating the water will get them back up to 100%.

I'm just looking for ways to make the polluted water be useful beyond showing how much pollution you're causing.

    Thoughts?

After more than 1000hours on this game, help me find a new challenge

    Posted: 28 Jun 2021 07:55 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I firmly believe that Factorio is one of the best game ever made. I spent more than 1000 hours playing it, but I feel like I've done « everything »

I played vanilla and with mods like Krastorio2 or 5Dim, I've made huge mega bases (up to 10K SPM), very clean and organized bases, etc

I love this game and want to find a new way of enjoying it, because I find myself doing the same thing over and over now, without any novelty

I'm hopping for suggestion or ideas that'll make me play Factorio again !

Any suggestion is welcome, any challenge is welcome

    Thanks !

EDIT: I'm not a fan of fluids in general, so BobAngels was horrible for me just because of the hundreds of fluid dynamics going on

EDIT2: Thanks for all the suggestions guys, really appreciate it
