Pretty sure I'm bad at this game. But it's working?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 08:17 PM PDT

finished my first playthrough with 3 friends in just under 50 hours... were moving straight on to modded space exploration now!

Bought the game 8 days ago, today I beat it with no guides! (Swipe for many progress pics!)

Thank you for the Linux support

    Posted: 23 Jun 2021 07:11 AM PDT

I just want to say, as a Linux user, thank you.

I recently updated CUDA to dive into some ML learning, and steam no longer opens, however the straight from the site install loads perfectly fine, just pop `factorio` into the console (I should probably shorten it) and the game is ready in seconds.

Top notch job, thank you for supporting Linux.

    Dumb question

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 09:30 PM PDT

Hi, first time using steam, first time pc gaming, first time using reddit, and I have a BIG DUMB question. Now that I'm playing the full game and not the demo I don't know how to save, in the demo the menu in the upper right gave me the option to save and quit manually but that's been replaced. When I google my question I find save file locations which I DO NOT CARE ABOUT. I just want to know my progress is saved and quit my game. Please help

If I were to do a succession game for Factorio, how should I define turn limits?

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 10:58 PM PDT

Hi guys. As the title says, I'm looking at doing a community succession game for factorio.

For those who don't know, a community succession game is where a save file is passed between several players, who each play the game for a set amount of time. The most common and famous game I know of to do this is Dwarf Fortress, which has had several famous Let's Plays done in this format.

    https://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/

If I were to do a community succession game of Factorio, what would you recommend for defining the time a player gets before they have to pass the file on?

    Best early game seed ever?

    Posted: 23 Jun 2021 07:42 AM PDT

This game hooked me so hard I still can't compute it.

    Posted: 23 Jun 2021 08:21 AM PDT

I have discovered this game 2-3 weeks ago and since then I have played A LOT.

I played the hell outta shapez.io and I was looking for something more complex and complete.

First I did the tutorial and wasn't entirely happy with the game (disliked the bugs part) but I decided to start a solo game and see how it would go.

First I went with some spaghetti base and not much is remaining of that era currently. everything is upgraded and re-purposed.

I started to expand and fortified everything until I realised that my strat was bad and destroyed a big part of everything only to secure a huge chunk of land and work towards a big bus.

My bus design is fine by me but it's supply fail. Next time I will do: 1 fab= 1 line on the bus. I won't try to cheese like I did there.

Most of the time I built way too much factories and only 30% of them worked.

I also played with ressources patches that were so thick they felt infinite. I guess when you have to move all the time to find new ressources the game gets better.

anyways here are some picutres: https://imgur.com/a/Va4unMU

TLDR: What and incredible game, My first game is over but this isn't my last one that's for sure.

Mods for speeding up or skipping the early game.

    Posted: 23 Jun 2021 08:16 AM PDT

    Hey fellow Engineers!

Can you recommend some mods for speeding up the early game (Pre-Robots) that are compatible with the latest official build?

I've done that part of the game so many times now that it feels like a drag.

    Thanks in advance.

In rail centric build, Should I smelt ore right next to Ore Patch and push plates in the rail network or should I ship ores and smelt it in a sort of a smelting hub.

On that note, I find myself running to get balancer of odd numbers like 27-to-8 balancer, 10-10, 37-24 balancer. Is there a balancer generator somewhere on the internet.

How on earth do you peeps build tracks/stations so close together?

New item/building idea for logistics networks

    Posted: 23 Jun 2021 05:02 AM PDT

So what about a robot recharge station that's smaller than a roboport but its only job is recharging bots? They could have 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 charge ports each and these charging stations can take the charge load off of roboports, decrease bot congestion when queuing to charge, be smaller, be cheaper, be less power hungry (?) and thus increase throughput.

Now these stations would have to be connected to a logistics network (only roboports can create, maintain, etc logistics networks) to properly function. They'd be like modules or add-ons in that they increase a roboports capability.

    What do you think?

    A Thanks

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 12:04 PM PDT

I've always been sort of a lurker here. Never launched a rocket, and never really made it all that far. But Factorio, today, helped me solve a problem I've faced my whole life. The inability to create. I've found that I've a service-based designer, input, output. And once I started to use the blueprinting system to make production modules, instead of just thinking about routing to individual assemblers... everything became so much easier. I've struggled with this issue for well over a decade, and thanks to this marvelous game, I've finally solved it.

Maybe this won't seem like much to a good number of you, but it means the world to me. So Thank You Wube Software, thank you all for all the designs and tips that helped me figure all this out, and may our factories continue to grow!

I can’t get into this game

    Posted: 22 Jun 2021 12:41 PM PDT

I bought this game about a year ago and I have maybe 15 hours on it and Im trying to figure out whether my mindset for this game is wrong or whether its just simply not for me. I played the demo and thought it was fun but going into the game I can never play more than an hour at a time before wanting to play something else. Is there anyone else who felt like this and managed to get into it eventually? I kinda have a perfectionist nature and so having just a empty area and trying to just do stuff is hard cause I feel like Im doing it wrong. I dont think perfectionism is the whole problem but it's certainly a big one. I really want to try and give this game a fair shot so any advice would be appreciated.
