i’m sure this has been discussed before, but it would be nice to have 2 train versions: 1 high-power train built for hauling many, many cars, and 1 high-speed train built for a few cars to go very quickly. anyway i saw this art by @davidknappdesign on Instagram and thought it had Factorio vibes…

Finally reached 1kSPM. Still a lot to improve though. Love/hate relationship with these rectangles though.

Hi friends, I made a small stand-alone factory for making artillery shells and I'm pretty proud of it.

Can't figure out how to automate trains. Info in comments

    Well that was dumb...

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 11:58 PM PST

I am making my way toward a nuclear reactor. Actually, everything is in place except for the fuel. Now I have done this before in a previous playthrough, but for some reason, I took my first batch of 41 U-235 and turned it into Nuclear Fuel, instead of Uranium Fuel Cells!!!

    I'm an idjit, lol

I assume there's no way to convert it back to U-235?

I've put in maybe 150 hours so far and can't get enough. Every week I'm learning something new or improving a blueprint.

    Kovarex enrichment setup

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 09:16 AM PDT

    Kovarex enrichment setup

This is a drop and forget-about-it setup. The source of uranium ore is processed into either U-235 or U-238. The U-238 flows straight to the Koverex enrichment centrifuges. The U-235 flows into a priority splitter on the left side which forces the system to take from any U-235 that is already in the enrichment system before taking from the ore; this prevents any backups from occurring in the enrichment system.

When you stamp this down, there is a combinator latch on the left. While the leftmost enrichment centrifuge hasn't activated and output anything yet, the stack inserters on the right pull U-235 out of the system into the standby chests. By pulling the U-235 out of the system, it gives the ore refinement a chance to make the 40 U-238 required to kickstart the Koverex enrichment. At the first activation of the leftmost stack filter inserter pulling U-238 out of the centrifuge, the combinator latches, which turns off the stack inserters pulling U-235 out of the system, and turns on the stack inserters to drain those chests.

At this point, the system is on full-auto. Each Koverex enrichment centrifuge re-primes itself, until it has the 80 U-238, which will then overflow to the next in the line. Once all of them have overflowed, the steel chest in the lower right will begin to fill up.

This is not a "smart" system, it is a "forget-about-it" system. Plop it down, come back later and it will be making U-238.

how should I think about train throughput?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:54 AM PDT

The problem: I am trying to develop a train system which can consistently transport 4 blue belts of items across a medium distance (30-45 seconds) with zero interruptions in the flow. So far I've found this quite difficult to accomplish, with the receiving end usually experiencing some interruptions if it continuously consumes the input.

I think I'm mostly having a hard time building a mental model for how train throughput works. What are the main factors that influence this? Is it mostly limited by loading/unloading speed? number of trains? buffer size at either end? trip distance? Are there any good examples I can look at of train systems which can accomplish this kind of uninterrupted 180 items/second flow?

24 Hours in to Bobs/Angels/Rampant Death world... I dont know why either

A friend and I decided to do a Bobs/Angels/Rampant Death world, 24 hours in and we have just automated science!!! (I'm not joking it's a nightmare), yes that bus is a solid 32 lanes thick and it will only get bigger -_-, literally cant make radars so no map vision for us :(. And to top all of this craziness off we have space extended... yeah we'll be a few hundred hours or something

    Personal logistics just wont work!

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 08:15 AM PDT

    Help!

I Googled the problem and I'll start by saying I I understand how these are meant to work. I'm in range, have bots and materials on me. But logistics and con bots just wont work from my personal roboport.

I built a second roboport and placed it into a spidertron and that works as long as I'm in the spider

Iv even tried dropping my roboport and then picking it up. Any suggestions before I just make a new one?

"Ctrl" adding speed modules to assemblie machine 3 randomly deletes modules from inventory.

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:39 AM PDT

I had 50 modules on me and ctrl. added them to assembly machine 3´s.

After adding modules to 3 machines ( total 12 modules added ) the whole stack of 50 modules was gone.

    Anyone else noticed this?
