    Addicted

    Posted: 21 Feb 2021 09:37 PM PST

So I've recently gotten into this game. And man, it has sucked me in. I'm still learning things here and there. Trying to build walls and plenty of turrets because it seems I'm being attacked every 5-10ms. It's frustrating when they destroy so much shit but it's so addicting having to fix it all and keep grinding. Any tips for a new player??

I'm building a belted megabase but for bringing in raw resources I'll need trains, what is the best train leght in your opinion?

    X1KV3 Week 15

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 06:28 AM PST

    X1KV3 Week 15

As promised here is X1KV3 Sit-rep Week 15

In short, I am producing Yellow Science, for a more detailed report read on.

So, in case anyone missed it, I started a new map with science set to be 1,000 times more expensive than normal. I gave myself a large starting area and increased the yield of my resource patches. Biters, Evolution, Expansion and Pollution are all switched on, I cheesed cliffs to make them shorter and smaller and I cheesed biters Making fewer but larger bases. I have failed this challenge twice and this is my 3rd attempt.

    Greetings fellow factorions.

The road is long and the mountain is high and the struggle is real! After last weeks low energy post on week 13 I was telling myself to pick up the pace and press on to the finish line in order to get this challenge finished. Then after my post last Monday I didn't play for a day or so and when I did I played light.

I spent a couple of days making the improvements to my copper wire production and also some tweaks to purple science to try to get it running more stable. It is running much better now but still only at 1.7k per min because I am sharing some resources and I cant balance things and make them work until yellow science is being produced.

I researched Blue transport belts and I have made some but I have no use for them yet and also I have researched Yellow assembly machines and beacons but again I have no use for them yet. I could remake my smelters or my factories using the new blue belts and yellow assembly machines but that would take time and mean going backwards and I dont think I have the patients or energy left to rebuild everything to cross the finish line in style...

When I started this challenge I was being sure to be as future proof as possible so I could implement new technologies as and when I got them and I can honestly say that I managed to fail hard at that and my current base is nothing like my original base. It would be lovely for me to be starting this challenge with all the information and blueprints I have now so that I can have a pleasing, balanced and symmetrical base. I have played so far with this in mind and all the way up until purple science I was happy to rebalance and improve and even rebuild entire parts of my base in order to reach the end in style.

That brings me on to the mental nightmare of getting yellow science going. I really struggled to even get started making the yellow science builds. I calculated how many belts I would need for the whole factory and now yellow science is using all the left overs from that working out. Any ideas I had about accurate mathematics is out of the window but not necessarily for the bad, in that , I seem to have extra resources left over. Too much iron plates or to much green circuits and i know that this must be a mistake because its impossible to have to much of those resources!

So now I am literally just throwing the parts for yellow science down and chucking the resources into it and over supplying and undersupplying and not giving a F%$k to just get yellow science being loaded into a train and shipped to the labs.

That's where I am right now. As of last night I have yellow science being loaded into a train. The design is able to make 2k science per minute and I wont be a million miles of that target but It will need to be balanced and tweaked significantly in order to reach the stable 2k per minute my build aims for.

Once I have yellow science running well I can then consider things like Production modules in labs or beaconed builds in order to lower my ups. I could consider solar power for the same reasons but that's all for consideration in the future.

My goal going forwards is to get all sciences running stable at 2k per minute and a rocket to get me off this rock. I dont mind admitting that I am finding this challenge hard mentally now as I miss my UPS and I feel the challenge is all but done apart from completing it..

Despite the negative aspects of all this I am also extremely happy with my achievements so far and I also must remind my self that This is 1,000 times more expensive science. It been really tough and I have spent 800 hours so far. I seem to know every single tile of my base and I am looking forwards to a new challenge after i see this to its conclusion.

You can watch me haul myself over the finish line if you like. I am streaming whenever I play this on twitch.tv/marcmerry. I will respond to chat when I read it and if you dont fancy watching then you can always read about it when I update next week.

I think I am perhaps 2 weeks off finishing but we can see how that prediction unfolds lol

    Happy Factorioing and cu soon

    problem with trains

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 04:44 AM PST

basically, i have a train with a straight line it goes perfectly from station a to station b, the proble is when I added another train and another station that fuses with the original track ( with traffic lights of course) and the trains refuse to one of the stations, as if the track was only one way, the trains have both locomotives in the back and in the front facing front and the back so

    whats the problem?

Move players between surfaces or /jail

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 04:14 AM PST

I am looking for a way to teleport players between surfaces (I will create the surfaces using map editor) using commands. Only admins should be able to run them. How do I do this? Is it possible? I am not an expert. If possible could there be commands like: /jail <Player\_name> and/or /free <Player\_name> . If best would be good a command /punish <Player-name> <time (in hours)> . If there is a way to make these commands? If any possible reply below. Thank you for your time.

Confused on two different calculators out there

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 12:57 AM PST

Ive been using the Kirk McDonald calculator for years and then i found the factoriolab calculator. i was curious and put in 1k spm on both calculators with the same settings to see if there are any differences. i expected a few minor differences, but any as drastic as this. the kirk calc says i will need way more machines for some items than the factoriolab calc says. for example, kirk says ill need 30 chemical plants making plastic, while factoriolab says ill only need 16, even though both say i will need the same amount of total plastic. so whats going on here? is one of the calculators using incorrect equations? did i enter something wrong? (links to my calculator setups below)

    Rename many stations

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 02:47 AM PST

Is there a possibility to change all stations with one name to another by one simple operation? I haven't found it so far.

If no, I have a suggestion to add this small futature to stations view window.
