Just finished the Demo....after 14hours of gameplay!!

This game sucks you in like no other. I cannot belive it took me 14 hours to complete the tutorial....it just shows how complex and big this game can be. I love every second with it and am waiting a better financial condition to buy the full game and spend other 300hours with it in one week haha

My final base is basically full spagghetti mode, but I guees everyone's first full base is:

Thanks Factorio team for giving a demo of this amazing game! I would have never ever played it since all the videos I've saw about it seemed like something I would not enjoy, I was wrong.

    Baby beginner question: Spawner hunting?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 08:10 AM PST

So I just recently got started on this game and my first save is going great so far. I'm onto yellow science pack production already. I've also built literally no defenses for my factory because I've never needed them... I made a point of finding and exterminating all the nests near me in the early game, and since my base is in a forest biome, my pollution footprint on the map is more or less contained. Every time I need to expand (which isn't that often because I chose a "rich resources" world), I just take my gun and destroy any spawners that might potentially be within trouble distance of me, before they've evolved anything more than small biters. I saw one spitter once.

Is this the strat? Can I just go on cheesing like this, or will I inevitably need more advanced military when I hit the endgame? Am I just really lucky this time?

How hard is the learning curve

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:41 PM PST

I love management/ simulation games but this game looks pretty intimidating to jump in. How hard is the learning curve? Any tips or YouTube videos to make it an easier transition?

    10k SPM train megabase.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 01:43 PM PST

    Base "MK".

Built in editor, vanilla (experimental version 1.1.21), 120 hours.

Produced and consumed 10k+ SPM the last 10 hours. And will likely do so until orepatches are depleted.

    Military science included.

UPS around 65 on my Ryzen 2600, memory 16GB at 3400Mhz.

Uses 73GW of power, solar powered.

    Methods of production:

    - Smelting: Train-to-train and belts-to-train (50-50).

    - Assembling: Train-to-train (99%).

    - Labs: Train-to-train (100%).

    - Refueling: Trains and bots.

    Trains:

    - The most common train has 16 loco's and 48 cargo- or fluidwagons, and are bidirectional.

    - 226 trains and 1014 stations in total.

    - Trainstop limit and dummy stations are used to distribute the trains evenly across the base. The occasional train will act silly however.

    Rails and layout:

    - Right hand drive.

    - 270k railpieces. 5k signals.

    - 8-lane railway "the core", four in each direction. Connects the seperate production-units.

    - The core with it's production units is one big group. The ore outposts can be placed anywhere if you like.

    Entities:

    - 79k beacons

    - 8,4k smelters

    - 43k stack inserters

    - 9,7k stack filter inserters

    - 5,4k longhanded inserters

    - 73 decider combinators

    - 480 labs

    - 6,1k assemblers.

    Most interesting parts:

    - The intermediate block, it resembles belt spaghetti.

    - Green circuit fab because of the massive throughput.

I like to put a big shoutout to kirkmcdonald, Mulark and all contributors to the testindex, technical factorio, and Stevetrov. He inspired me big time with his monolitic megabase, so much so I wanted to give it a try myself.

Ready to start building it in a railworld map. See ya'll next year...

    Some snapshots:

    Purple science

    Steel

    Nuclear fuel for trains.

    Mapview.

    Production.

    Empty pipe markers removed?

    Hi all.

Just updated my base from 0.18 to 1.1, loving the changes so far. Except... it looks like empy pipes no longer show what fluid they could have in them in alt mode, even if they're connected to a machine. Is there a setting or a mod to turn this back to the way it was?

    Thanks!

Sometimes a recycled wall gets into my outpost build train and messes up the counting of items - how to deal with this?

    Filter destroyed objects alerts?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:30 AM PST

Is there a mod that lets me filter what kinds of things cause alerts when they get destroyed?

For example, I don't care if the biters kill one of the little pieces of "dragon teeth" wall, or if a repair bot gets killed going out to try to replace it. I DO care if they manage to stop a train and kill the locomotive. But either way, it makes the same alert noise and I have to look at it to see what happened.

Our Pyanodon Journey: Part 1 - Beginnings

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:19 PM PST

Our Pyanodon Journey: Part 1 - Beginnings

Overview of the finished belt bus and the beginning of the train bus.

View more pictures in the Imgur Album

So my friend and I started yet another Pyanodon world after giving up on the last three. Our goal is to make a full train-based bus. In a nutshell, the train bus has consumer stations and provider stations. Provider stations put items on the network to be received by the trains in the consumer stations. Consumer stations send out trains when the desired product becomes available. There is more to how the train bus works with combinators and such, but I'll go into the details in a later post.

Of course, one does not start immediately with trains or really much of anything. The plan was to bootstrap to the point where we have all the necessary items and then build our train bus. This includes all the basic metals, the gases needed to mine them, and the red and green research needed to actually build the trains. We also decided that we needed large power poles and bots to help with personal logistics and construction.

Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of our first base, which was to simply do enough red science to get automation working. The pictures above are the main bus to fufill the goals mentioned above. You will see the beginnings of the train bus. A lot of the initial inputs were done with VERY long belts reaching distant deposits. Once we got trains, some long belts were replaced with non-signaled trains.

Check out the imgur album above and post any questions below.

This "snapshot" was taken about a month ago in our game. We've gotten much farther now. :)

Next up: The belt bus transfered to the train bus.

[Modded] Construction tasks not being given despite available bots?

[Modded] Construction tasks not being given despite available bots?

I've got 2500 spare construction bots, and in the process of building a beaconed accumulator/solar panel area, but bots aren't completing the task. Same network, all in the orange area, powered, etc.

I've got thousands of accumulators waiting to be built, but only making around 200/min, so is that clogging the bot command pipeline?
