I feel like artillery "wins" the game Posted: 17 Dec 2020 12:25 PM PST For a sandbox game, the biters have really made it feel like an RTS campaign for my latest build, which is in the middle of the desert, with no real bottlenecks. I got nuclear power as early as possible, but the cloud just kept bumping up against more nests. Somehow I managed to cobble together a yellow science setup that slowly chugged along at a snail's pace while I kept up my Mad Max tank orbit assaults. After I set up an artillery train, I spent the next seven hours of gameplay systematically reducing the nests on the perimeter of my cloud. Remind me why I can't stop playing, hahaha. Posted: 18 Dec 2020 07:11 AM PST Having seen the recent post about "launching" the rocket ship on the wiki page to go to the top of the page I was intrigued by the spidertron on the bottom of the Alt-F4 blog today. You can take control of the spidertron by clicking on the "factory" it is sitting on and them moving your mouse elsewhere. Your cursor will become a spidertron remote. You can then have your spidertron walk around the blog. Sorry if this is already known but I liked it :) [link] [comments]
Trains supplying science outpost / sub-factory - I need so many! Posted: 18 Dec 2020 02:28 AM PST Hello, all. I'm working on my first "From main-bus to a lot of awkwardly designed trains" base. I automated rocket launching with a main bus, and now I've expanded the base and I wanted to set up little mini-factories so that I had dedicated trains delivering iron / copper plates, green or red circuits, etc.... So, my question - what are some options for setting up an outpost that just builds one type of science, for example? In setting this up I sometimes need to have 4-6 different trains delivering the goods, and that's even when I'm not smelting onsite. Is there a commonly used pattern for this? I originally started with a goal of at least 250 science per minute because it seemed manageable to work out with beacons, but the hassle of setting up 4-5 train stops for this makes me wonder if I'm missing something. Do folks re-use train stations somehow and unload multiple things? Is this just the way it is and I need to learn to leave EVEN MORE SPACE?! :) (side note for anyone reading: this train experiment has been so fun and so frustrating. I'll play, realize I need to set up a big patch of land so I can make a lot of sulfur, for example, and be totally not into it, turn the game off and honestly think "I may never play again. I can't see myself getting psyched up to make a bunch of sulfur. Then, a few hours later, I'm like "YEAH! Let's go make some sulfur!" and I'm back in) [link] [comments]
