    Probably not needed but as a new to bots player, I found out what happens when you try to empty train station chests by using active providers and ten thousand logistic bots. Almost blew my entire grid without realizing it.

    Science Off - Competition between friends

    We made a mod to encourage friendly competition between friends on a common map seed and settings. It tracks how much science you consume and gives you points based on their complexity within a set time limit, simples.

    Score screen from in game

    This is Factorio competition at its simplest:

    • pick a target score or time
    • pick a map exchange string and possibly other mods so your both playing the same exact map. often not previewing the map is most fun.
    • load the game and react to the map you get, try to do as much valuable science research as you can.
    • see who did best in these exact conditions

    I hope that others will enjoy challenging their friends to a competition in whatever flavour of Factorio they enjoy :D

    History

    This was the idea of Colonel Will as many people liked the competition of Biter Battles and Production Challenge, but didn't like some of the constraints they had. With this mod idea we haven't limited anything so whatever you agree and share with your opponents is good: map conditions, time/score limits, mods and their settings.

    Competitive Features

    Competitors play separate games to avoid the problems of trying to play at the same time. At the end of the game you get a frozen points screen as your official score record. You can get a copy of your consumption data and can load this in to the next playthrough as a target consumption goal. It appearing in the production graph so you can compare your progress in real time.

    Consumption goal icons have the graph symbol on them. Red line is previous score, blue line is this games score.

    To date some streamers have played varying length games from 4 to 24 hours. Either against each other or against their own communities. Its been regular maps and train worlds so far, but maybe death worlds some day. Examples from various games across streamers;

    Is playing without aliens boring?

    I allways play in a world with aliens so that there is a bit of a challenge. I am considering to start a save without aliens where I can just expand without worries. But I'm wondering if the game will get boring if there is nothing (except your trains) that tries to kill you. Can someone tell me if that is true?
