Posted: 25 Jul 2020 05:34 AM PDT Personal logistics will automatically place items from your inventory into your trash but do not bring them back into your inventory. Here is an example of when that is annoying: Let's say you have your personal logistics set to give you exactly 50 pipes (that is: 50 <= pipes <= 50). Now let's say you go to improve some part of your factory which is currently using more than 50 pipes (let's say 55 for the sake of example). You use cut to pick it up, and then paste to place it down again. This will not be completed. Since you already have 50 pipes in your inventory, the 55 excess pipes from the cut have been placed in your trash. All 50 in your inventory will then been placed, 0 pipes will remain in your inventory, 5 on the ground are ghost pipes, and 55 pipes lay in your trash. You now have to open your trash and manually bring them back to your inventory to make use of them again. What would be better is if items from trash are automatically placed back into inventory according to the logistic filters. It's a relatively small nuisance, but it would be a very nice quality of life upgrade. [link] [comments] | ||

Only An Island?! How can we transfer progress to a new map? Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:09 AM PDT A friend and I hand picked a seed that we thought would give us an easily defensible starting point. So, we started a map that looked like it was a series of peninsulas, and once we explored all the coastlines we realized it was an island. After ramping up military technology, we aggressively cleared all the biters with the intent of building a land bridge to the mainland to continue our expansion. We cannot find a mainland. We have enough resources on the island to finish the game, but our plan was to build a megafactory and practice our train building, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations on transferring our progress to a new seed? Is the Space Exploration mod a good path for this? We have also talked about using this as a supply for a clustorio game (since we could automate everything and leave it running unpaused). Posted: 24 Jul 2020 08:26 PM PDT I had some terrible rubber-banding, network latency, and was a high number of simulation ticks behind the host. We're both only 40 miles away in a major metropolitan area on high speed internet, with no other internet maladies to speak of. We both tried hosting. I tried port forwarding to host too, same issue. We'd get frequent disconnects and server lag in the range of seconds. The same thing happens when I connect to a friend 300 miles away, also in a metropolitan area, with just as fast internet speeds (150-300 Mbps symmetrical). I understand connecting via steam utilizes UDP hole punching to connect us, and we're both on NAT'd networks. Why is it that the moment I connect to my friends VPN (the one 50 miles away) all my Factorio connectivity issues disappear??? Thoughts or concerns? Anyone else had similar issues? My firewall is a WatchGuard and, again, I haven't had any issues with speed or latency to any other game, service, or remote pc, or when hosting servers for other games and services, like websites.
