Getting bored with myself - alternative base designs?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 06:12 AM PST

I've become rather stuck in a rut, doing efficient bus designs. Raw materials to the left, intermediates and malls center and science and silo to the right following a grid layout. I've done all my blueprints for this and have it all figured out. No problem doing a 1000 spm base this way. Does anyone have a suggestion for a different layout I can try out?

I don't want to go the mod route because I'm not really looking for a more complicated game, I just want to solve the same problem a different way!

    My Bob/Angel Base

    My Bob/Angel Base

So I finally managed to send a few rockets, and I'm at 4.5k Science/min. Took me at least 300 hours, a lot of headscratching, and I gave up 3 times. But I finally made a base that I feel proud of, and I no longer feel intimidated by Angel's mods, or by trains.

I'm thinking about testing out Pyanodon's mods, but I also want to see if I can drastically increase my science/min in this base. If someone has some tips for a Pyanodon playthrough, that would be great

My new friend wanted enforced zoning so he could find stuff easier. "Zoning" is stupid, and I love it.

Recommendations on what to do next?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 08:22 AM PST

so i've got about ~400 hours into the game and have a few saves at this point. my latest is no mods and no enemies at about 200 spm. i'm quite thrilled with this! but it's getting a little boring as at this point i'm just increasing production everywhere and not doing any real problem solving.

i've got a good handle on how the game works (excluding enemies). so my question is, for a new save to really sink my teeth into, could you recommend some fun mod packs? (krastorio has looked kinda cool, as well as ir).

also, i'm a little nervous to get into enemies as the last thing that i want is for stuff to be overrun by enemies because i didn't properly plan for them and the game to focus too much on them instead of science production. if there's a decent series of settings for them that make them part of the game but not hugely powerful/important to ween me into them i'd appreciate that too!

Really great start to Lazy Bastard. Red green and military flowing nicely. Made a bunch of oil handling gear, ready for blue next!

I introduced Factorio to my 8yo over Thanksgiving and he's totally hooked. Here's our multiplayer base with 1st rocket launch after 56 hrs.

How many blueprints do you have?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:15 AM PST

I just started playing factario a week ago maybe. Was wondering how many blueprints you guys have collected. Also if you can send me the string of your blueprint book I would be really happy. I wanna check out some of them to get an idea of good setups. Thanks
