Feature request: place ghost instead of item when item is not available anymore Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:15 AM PDT Hey guys, I'll try to keep that clear and short, and I hope you will support my proposition: When a player has the checkbox "pick ghost item if no items are available", game should automatically switch from item to ghost when placing item and item is not available anymore. Example: I'm building a 200 tiles long belt, but I only have 100 belts on me. So I'm running while placing those, and once I placed the last one (100th), game is switching to ghost ones automatically, allowing me to keep running and not having to stop and manually reselect belt to place ghost anyway. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:01 AM PDT So i have 1200h in Factorio and 500h in Satisfactory Is IRL logistics menagment anyhow similar to those 2 games, ive been thinking of applying to university for logiscitics degree since 2017, i'm sure there is a job where you do same things as in those games [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:57 AM PDT I'd like to discuss the merits and challenges to enhancing game play through creation of a dedicated server and enhanced factorio architecture that allows for a "singular world" approach to multiplayer. Personally, I think it would be interesting to have an always on massive multiplayer game, with vast spread out starting locations with sparse resources that requires building trade networks as well as p2p defenses. This element of game play would be a dog-eat-dog world and would require a bit of configuration to make playable. Given the random generation of the map, having an algorithm that would populate new entrants in a "starting" location with necessary resources and is outside the discovered territory by X-random distance from discovered boarder. I am thinking live action civilization style maps and "teams", but allowing new entrants constantly. Instead of just biters, you have to be weary of looters, as well as enemies who a covetous of the resources you have. Ready- go. [link] [comments]

Many-to-many train schedule question Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:37 AM PDT Is there any way to set up a many-to-many train system with each train having only two stops? [link] [comments]
Are train IDs guaranteed to be positive? Posted: 01 Aug 2021 06:45 PM PDT Will train IDs always be positive numbers, as given to the circuit network by a train stop set to read them? As in, the high-order bit of their value is always 0. [link] [comments]
Factorio Community Map - August 2021 Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:31 PM PDT What is this? The idea behind the monthly community map is to share a map exchange string at the beginning of every month, and get as many people as we can to start a new world with it. Then at the end of the month (or even periodically if you'd prefer!) we share screenshots and saves of our factories so that we can see how different people approach the same spawn; how they set up their base, how they deal with aliens, and how they arrange their science, power, and everything else. I hope it can highlight how many different ways there are to do things, inspire some new designs, and maybe seeing how veteran Factorio players tackle problems will help out new players facing the exact same problems. (Of course, there's also the fact that it'll be interesting to see all of the different possible factories - the good, the bad, and the ugly.) Last Month's Results The Community Map It's time for the one year anniversary of the release of Factorio 1.0! Well, ok, maybe not quite yet. But the anniversary will be during this month! At first I was thinking I might try and put together some real big map for this month, but then I considered that celebrating the release of 1.0 with a modded map might be missing the point just a little. All that is to say, August is going to be vanilla. But I also didn't want to repeat the same sort of vanilla map that I do so often, so like I did last month, I tried mixing the settings up a bit. At one point I even attempted to use a randomizer to determine my settings as a nod towards last month, but let's just say that didn't turn out so well. With that idea out of the way, I decided to do the opposite of my typical style: Lots of small patches, slow spreading but rather large biter bases, wide open spaces (aside from the spawn area), etc. Exchange string: What your starting area should look like: https://i.imgur.com/Sj4C0gJ.png Sync File: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E84_aPsiG7EInIUkAERx8s16-CdY1ml5/view?usp=sharing The starting area size is pretty big, and the pollution has been tweaked to be slightly more forgiving, but I have a pretty good feeling that not too long after you've triggered your first attack the biters are going to start coming in hard. A little early investment in military will likely be time and resources well spent. That's all the hints you'll get from me though - enjoy! Exchange String Help If anyone isn't sure how to use an exchange string, just go to new game like you're going to generate a new world, and at the bottom there's a button just above play labelled "Import map exchange string" - the icon looks like a little arrow going into a tray/bucket. Just copy the exchange string above and paste it into the box that comes up when you press that button. Press confirm, and that's it! You're good to go. Just generate the world and come back in a month to show us how your factory turned out! If you run into any issues check to make sure that you copied the whole string, including the three greater than/lesser than signs at the beginning and end, and make sure that your Factorio is up to date with the most recent version installed. (As of the time of this post, the most recent version of Factorio is 1.1.36.) Issues With Adding The Save File If you're uncertain how to use the save file I provided above, here are step by step instructions: 1) First, of course, is to actually download the file. Make sure you know where this file is so you can move it later. (It will be in your browser's default download folder unless you've changed it.) 2) Locate where Factorio's save folder is on your computer. If you've installed Factorio at its default location ( C:\Program Files\Factorio ) then there will be a shortcut to your saves folder there called "saves". Double-click it to go to the saves folder. 3) Take the file you downloaded and move it into this folder. That should be it! Now just launch Factorio and make sure you sync your mods to this save before playing. If you'd like to play on this save specifically (for example, if this month has some per-save settings you don't feel like messing with) then you'll notice when you load the map normally your player will be named "ChaosBeing" (since I'm the one who started the save, of course). To get around this, you can host it as a local multiplayer game and then save. You should now appear as your own character when you load the map from now on! If you have any issues, feel free to ask in the comments below, or in the monthly map's channel on the official Factorio Discord. Want To Play With Others? If you have an open public server, let me know in the comments below or send me a PM and I'll add your server here! Feel Like Watching Someone Else? If you are a streamer or let's player who will be recording yourself building a new factory on a community map, I'd be happy to add a link to your channel here! About Mods Since mods can affect how a world spawns and ores are distributed, as well as add or change items and functionality, it's important to make sure that we're all playing the same game by the same rules. For example, if one person's playing vanilla and someone else is playing with Bob's mods, even if they use the same seed and map settings you still couldn't very well say they were playing the same game, and the way they'd play would differ enormously. On the other hand, playing with mods that either don't add any new items or change terrain, or that simply don't change the base game in a significant way, aren't going to change the way you solve problems or the kinds of problems you'll face themselves. As such, these sorts of mods are perfectly fine, even if some people are playing with them and some people aren't. Even Distribution is a wonderful example of a mod that, while very useful, does not inherently change the way the game is played. Then there are also mods like RadarPlus for RSO that do add new items, but still don't really change the way the game is played. I've decided to put together a list of these optional mods that I think are ok to use on any map below. The list is by no means comprehensive; it simply serves as an example of the sorts of mods that should be fine. Optional Mods Note: I can't imagine any situation where this could be an issue, but if you're the author of one of the mods listed here (and can offer me some proof of this) and for whatever reason would like me to remove your mod from this post, I'd be happy to comply. It's entirely possible some of these mods either don't work with the current version of Factorio, conflict with each other, or in some manner just don't work. I can't test them all, let alone every configuration of them, so you might want to back up your world before adding one of these. Posted: 01 Aug 2021 07:11 PM PDT So I'm attempting to make some trains running around doing oil and petroleum also doing lots of iron. However I can't seem to figure out why my trains stop at lights when the track section to the next light are empty. Also do signals not know if a train is at a ststion? [link] [comments]

Cheating to cycle through maps? Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:34 PM PDT Do you consider it cheating to cycle through maps till you get one you like? I had to give up on my first base because the oil was so few and far between it wasn't fun. Spent a lot more time on picking the map for my next game. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:29 PM PDT Hi, I want to play a multiplayer game with a couple of friends. How can we play multiple sessions on the same save? I have not even finished the game myself yet though, and I haven't tried multiplayer. [link] [comments]
Has anyone ever actually finished a base on this thing? Posted: 01 Aug 2021 10:40 AM PDT I've played almost 500 hours so far, and have tried to figure everything out myself without the aid of tutorials. My first save lasted 30 hours, before I realised I was making too many mistakes and started again. My next save got to about 70 hours, before I again realised there were better ways to optimise and so I started again. Next time I was about 150 hours in before I realised that all the things I realised before were still wrong, and I've currently put in close to 250 hours on what I hope will be my final save but already I'm starting to see the cracks in my knowledge. How long can this go on? Did anyone ever get to a point where they were like yea, that'll do? I just can't see it happening [link] [comments] |
