Space exploration, let's discuss our builds and plans!

    Posted: 15 May 2021 03:13 AM PDT

I need to talk about the obsession that is my current playthough and this mod in general. Let's keep it spoiler free please.

Ask anything, share anything and generally vibe.

My current worry is how to expand productivity and depend less on buffers. I'm current working on astro science level 1 (my first branch) and I'm wondering how people plan ahead from here. My modest space station automatically creates basic space science but the landing pad is feeding the whole station, I have no mall for basic items like assemblies or inserters.

I think my plan is to use Navis to craft all basic science and be my ground mall, then use its orbit for all advanced science and space mall. Is this a Good idea? Or will there be reasons to create bigger and better bases I'm distance solar systems?

    Spiral coordinates circuit blueprint

    Posted: 15 May 2021 05:50 AM PDT

I made a circuit to calculate the x,y cell coordinates for a grid spiral. The BP is below. Here's what it looks like:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/OrMTAEe

It makes a pattern like this:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/NYxCOhO

Set N=1, and the coordinates come out as I, J. If you want to use this to place blueprints in a spiral, you'll need to multiply this by an initial X, Y, and a width and height of your blueprint.

I used the maths formula from a user called LHF at the link below. In factorio you can only have integers, not floats, so I made one modification to use the ceil of the square root instead. This doesn't change the result, and the spiral is still perfect. The BP for the ceil square root is below.

    https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/163080/on-a-two-dimensional-grid-is-there-a-formula-i-can-use-to-spiral-coordinates-in

I also needed a division function that returned the ceil, as opposed to the floor, which is the default for factorio division. The BP is below.

Is there a good mod to include nuclear materials in a science pack?

    Posted: 14 May 2021 02:16 PM PDT

It's one of the things I thought that creators should have done, that one of the science packs should have used nuclear material in some way. It's basically around for power and bigger booms with the weapons. I have so much production and would like a reason to use it more.

help with k2 mod water pumps

    Posted: 14 May 2021 08:34 PM PDT

I am trying out the krastorio 2 mod. All of a sudden, I cannot add water pumps to non "region spawn" water areas. I tried to add waterfill (based on the k2 mod) but I cannot pump water either.

I then tried to add P.U.M.P. mod and other pump mods to allow water to pump from non waterfilled regions, but that did not work.

Is there anything I can do to allow for water pumps to work from away from spawn?
