Completed my first large (to me) bus base. Targeted 60-100 SPM. No bots or blueprints used in the making of this base--designed all production units myself.

What do spm, 10k, 20k bases mean.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Ok so I'm a bit new to Factorio (and totally not addicted to it or anything.......) Anyway. I see people maiking 10k spm bases and stuff. I was just wondering what do the spm and 10k mean? I guess spm is sience per minute or something but how do ypu measure them?

Lags When Shooting And Driving; Multiplayer Hosting; Latency Hiding

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 06:29 AM PDT

    Hey,

me and my friends (3+1) just bought Factorio. When someone of us hosts a game usually everything works fine, there are some little lags sometimes but nothing special, but when we go into combat (shooting e.g.) or driving a car nothing works anymore. If you shoot for example you get teleported back, driving is basically impossible if you have to drive precise (for everyone except the person hosting.

I scrolled through the internet and found some seemingly solutions. One suggests to host the game on the slowest computer, the logic being that he then dictates the UPS and the faster computers can keep up with that.

As our problem only is really present when shooting and driving i would say that this is due to the latency hiding system (correct me when i am wrong).

Some people said you could cap the latency for all players just above the highest ping all players get, and that would fix the problem. Is this still possible and if so how EXACTLY to do this (set the limit ingame, i know how to check for our pings in general)? (That is basically what the person in the second link also asked).

Thank you so much for helping me, we all REALLY enjoy this game though these lags get really annoying... :)

Did I single this 4 way 1 way intersection right?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 02:49 PM PDT

My Lazy B* design for a mall. 3 belts of 6 goodies all feeding into the snaking assemblers. Thought I might know enough about the recipes to build something 'smarter' but here we are... Any love for my inefficiency?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 01:00 PM PDT

I put a mining drill on the boundary between coal and iron (1.5k for each expected) but it doesn't feed a smelter automatically with both. Any way to control that?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 11:31 PM PDT

The mine has access to an equal amount of iron and coal, but it only mines iron. I was hoping I could get it to automatically feed both into a smelter. Am I just off on my expectations?

How do I actually use the petroleum gas I collect?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 09:20 PM PDT

I can't seem to figure it out I found oil and set down a pump, then I set out a pipeline that leads to some tanks and an oil refinery. Now I'm producing petroleum gas which I need for certain recipes apparently in assemblers but I have no idea how to actually get the gas out of the pipes into the assemblers. What is the connector between a pipe and an assembler?

EDIT: Thank you for the response I can now start my next level of production thanks to you all

    Spacing problems

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 12:05 AM PDT

I kind of have a problem in all the bases I make.

At about the time when I transition to using the main bus, I always build things too close. This then leads to problems later in the game, which then leads to my question. Is there some rule or guiding principle I can use to space my base more appropriately, so that I don't have spacing issues later in the game?

Compact Red and Green Science: 347 per minute -> 25% cost reduction

Compact Red and Green Science: 347 per minute -> 25% cost reduction

a compact layout für 357 red and green since packs per minute

fofz1776 made a very good and compact layout. This is a follow up of his post https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/mkjcl0/improved_compact_red_and_green_science_367_per/

This is fofz1776 layout from bluprint-bot

I had the idea to look for some opimizazion. The design difference is to put the expensive beacons in the middle and desing a more square layout. As a result this reduces the building time, resosurce consumption by 25% and 11% less tiles.

The ratio is still 1:1 and produce 347 packs / minute.
    The performance loss is 6%.
I think this is a good deal.
