    Optimal belt balancing in Factorio

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:08 AM PST

87 hrs in. I have rebuilt my base three times. I have decided to start the main bus. Any tips?

"Ahh, I'm producing enough of everything! Great! Now to make blue circui- bugger."

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:57 AM PST

It's always the same moment. Everything's ticking over just fine, then you need to make blue circuits, and suddenly half your bus is empty. I love it, but I also hate it.

Recipe Randomizer 1.1.3 now officially supports Sea Block

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:04 AM PST

If you're a masochist, try it and post some highlights! It actually works really well, but the recipes are a bit more complex and scary. I also added a preset for IR2.

It works with other mods too, you just need to configure the randomizer settings. If you get it to play nice with some other mod, let me know, so I can make the settings into an official preset!

PSA: Steam for (nuclear) energy storage.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:13 AM PST

I'm a spaghetti player with a few hundred hours in Factorio. I don't really look at blueprints or guides so I have no idea what other players are doing. I just stumble on stuff in the game or sometimes lazily browsing Reddit.

I've just discovered this: Build a shit load of Storage Tanks to store steam produced by your nuclear plants. Just feed in fuel cells when the steam runs low (simple circuit network logic). Steam never loses temperature and turbines only use steam when they need to produce electricity so it's super efficient and you'll use way less nuclear fuel. For max efficiency you want enough storage tanks so that they never fill up or run out.

Map seed that's easily defendable and with oil (9) inside perimeter - default settings. 4265264417

I've never gotten past Green Sci and I'm perfectly okay with that!

    Posted: 24 Feb 2021 06:02 PM PST

I have 35 hours, and Im still learning new things in the beginning game. I recently learned how to use blueprints, and that you can fish, which is sooooo useful. I've had more fun, and adventures learning all of these things, than I have since Mincraft in 2012. Im so happy about this community and how helpful they are, and I help this game flourishes for the rest of my life. That's all, thanks for listening. Cheers!

Is it just me ? - Burner Inserters can take coal FROM a furnace

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:29 AM PST

Over 1,000 hours into the game and only just discovered that Burner Inserters can take fuel out of a furnace to load the output belt. Would have saved so much electrical knitting...

Edit - ok, I have just started on IR2, so maybe it's only with that Mod.

Day 3 of being a Factorio player and finally got my purple science running and I love it.

Reddit blocked some of my comments from yesterdays post, so I reuploaded it to another storage, hope it helps. Again, this is modular (Sort of) support train loading station. Amount of items controlled only by one combinator on loading station itself, or on the unloading station.

Getting updated map strings from older maps

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:58 AM PST

I'm a recent convert to Factorio, and a friend and I are about to start our second playthrough together. We have been looking through some map strings online for some interesting maps to play. Some of these strings are from older versions (think 0.15) and won't work in the latest version. I am able to download the older version, import the map string, save the file, then "upgrade" the file through subsequent versions to get a map that works with 1.1. All great, except when I try to use the map string from it, it's still comparatively short, and when entered in a new map, gives a totally different layout. If there a way to get an updated map string from these upgraded maps, that would give the same layout in 1.1?
