Me and my mate have just been trying space exploration for the first time. The spaghetti has gotten a bit out of hand. It has certainly been a challenge getting items from one side to the other.

    Circle-based train base

    Circle-based train base

Since yesterday I've been toying with an extremely inefficient but arguably very cool design for a train base. Instead of making yet another block blase that follows a certain square grid, I decided to only use circles or 'roundabouts' for everything! I was surprised myself that it even worked, and so far I have only managed to make it run smoothly when I have one cargo cart for every train, which obviously limits the potential for optimization. But it's a lot of fun! And the trains look a lot like fish when they move around from circle to circle, which is hilarious!

The background of me making this thing is that I recently reached my goal of 100+ SPM with my first spagetti-turned-bus base. I didn't get the same thrill from trying to optimize the bus as I did from trying to figure out my initial spagetti, so for some time I didn't know what to do in Factorio anymore. Then my brother started on a design for a train base, a block base on a square grid, and it occurred to me, that maybe I could try my luck with circles instead of squares. And here I am :D

Certainly not the best layout for a nuclear power plant, but I like it.

so my five year old wanted to do what daddy was doing... He is still figuring out steering, pressing forward, then pressing turn... one button at a time. and is thinks the appropriate response to a rock is to plow into it until it crumbles, rather than back up and go around... but it's a start :)

and i think i may have interested the 14 year old, I'm gonna setup the second laptop and let him try the tutorial on his own.

    How to setup oil (SE)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:08 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I am currently doing my first SE playthrough and I am having big issues with keeping my oil production up. The oil patches on nauvis run dry faster than I can clear out the biters and hook up a new patch.

What I do is Crack the oil, heavy to lubrikant. If more than 10k lubricant then I Crack it to light. And if I have more than 7k light oil in the tank I crack it to petroleum.

And I just launched my first rocket into space. So now I am sitting in orbit and realise I need lubricant. Look down on the planet and see my oil being empty again. And at this point it became so tedious that I feel like I must be doing something wrong

    How do Blueprint-String get generated?

My friend and I figured out that Blueprint Strings are not random but seems to get generated based on the exact Blueprint. Does anyone know how those Strings are generated?

Dont have my own copy, but an amazing anonymous Redditor is letting me family share so..

This is of course.. NOTHING compared to anything you have all done.. but I am oddly proud of my strange spaghetti thing here.. I don't have a clue yet how you make those amazing compact belts that are so smooth and nice-looking... but I have some red science potions being created on their own ran by electricity from the steam generator.. This is something I am very proud of.. and hopefully, I will learn much more and better ways to do things soon.. LOL

again.. looks so bad.. but thank you so much to the anonymous person who was kind enough to allow me to dive in finally head first! :D

So.. hopefully, its not the ugliest thing you've ever seen! :) lol

Went down to 0.17 for an old save, and lost all my blueprints. How to restore?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:00 PM PST

    FIXED: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=93872

    So, I did an oopsie.

I went down to 0.17 to load an old save of Nilaus, and I got the normal notifications that blueprints are being backed up. No big deal, right?

Well, I brought those saves back up to 1.1.6 and now I don't have my blueprints, despite having the file in my local folder.

It.s a ~29 MB file. Is there any hope?
