Started playing the demo, pleasantly surprised!

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 09:53 AM PST

I see this game mentioned fairly often on various subs. I thought last night "hey I'll try the demo it's free and I got a few hours to spare"

This is 1 of the few games that's lived up to the hype. I am really impressed/scared by how much time I'm going to dump into this game.

"steel plate" should be renamed to "steel beam" (literally unplayable!!!1!)

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 02:11 AM PST

Its pretty obvious why. The icon of the "plate" doesn't show a flat steel plate like copper and iron, but an i-beam. I checked a few of the game languages and the German translation seems to be the only one to actually call it a steel beam (Stahlträger).

Would anyone be willing to play with me?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 05:43 AM PST

I posted a while back asking for help regarding getting into playing this but I severely lacked any motivation to the point of not even launching the game.

So I thought I should ask for help in means of someone to play with who could get me a good start? Or we can become factory buddies and make it to the rocket launch together.

Send me a PM or leave a reply with your Steam friend code and I will get back to you later!

My timezone is MST and I'm usually up at around 3PM to 7AM.

    Just got this game

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 11:15 PM PST

I can't believe I just stumbled across the demo for this game the other day. 4 days and 30 hours later I'm completely hooked

Been restarting a lot because I've been learning tons so I haven't launched a rocket yet! Gonna try and push through for the launch this time tho! Currently deciding between yellow and purple science for my next craft ;)

Did anyone else feels this way when they first tried this game? I don't think I've been this dangerously addicted to a game since Warcraft 3 FT

Also shoutout for this game running smooth as butter even on my school laptop 😝😝😝

Warning: having a large blueprint library will increase your memory usage by several gigabytes

    Posted: 03 Dec 2020 01:18 PM PST

I have a moderately-sized blueprint-storage.dat of 50MB. I've just discovered something! If I delete it, my memory consumption in all singleplayer AND multiplayer games immediately drops by 2 gigabytes. This is reproducible! I only have 8GB of RAM and have been running into out-of-memory issues lately, and apparently this is the culprit. It seems factorio must be loading all the blueprints in your personal library into memory in every game to show you blueprint previews or something, and the 50MB of compressed JSON becomes 2GB of machine representation in RAM. I'd report it on the factorio forums, but having searched past similar posts and FFFs it appears to me as if the devs would consider this as not-a-bug. They'd say something like "blueprint import was a mistake" and it's my own fault for having so many blueprints (even though I created most of them myself), and that maybe I should get more ram. So I'm just letting you know for those who let their library grow large. I literally created a "library" world where I offloaded my old blueprints into chests, about 75% of total, and recovered 1.5GB of ram to use on multiplayer megabases. This is on Linux btw.

Z drops only one item. I tried shift-z, ctrl-z, alt-z to drop 50 pieces but no effect

Need help setting up a backup power generator for my nuclear power plant !

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 09:35 AM PST

I am a relatively new player (260h). My main world has been nuclear powered for the most part.

Now trying to improve the power generation, I have remade the steam turbine setup for a max 2.4Gw, remade the Kovarex processing cell to fully automatic simple logistics only, and already made a pretty good water and steam backup storage.

Not knowing how to use the logics system, I am having difficulty to setup a power generator backup, that activates when the main power is down, and provides power only for the nuclear plant main functions, (hydraulic and uranium cell supply).

Any one experienced this problem? Tips would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
