For Sale : Solar powerd factory in (almost) pristine rain forest.

    The story so far

So I decided to build a factory in 100% forest density.... Initially I questioned my sanity, but once I added grenades things got a little easier.

Have been 100% solar powered for quite some time.

Would have been 100% solar powered for over half the base life if I hadn't messed up a combinator setting on my steam power plant.

    Main Bus Mall and Research

Early game space was tight, so I went compact initially. The strip mall grew out to the west, under the accumulator battery, The two green lights in center left are my solar panel/accumulator construction crew. The build 200 solar panels and 168 accumulators. When I notice the lights are on, I then go on a stroll and place them.

    Production control center

All production is controlled from a central panel. I set the quantity of items I need, and the combinator multiplies it by -1 each output chest is connected by a red wire, and the output inserter is set to operate if item count < 0. Nice and simple :-) The provider chest has a filter set to accept only the desired item.

Finally - it's always important to remember where you started out in life!

    Ore Level:

The constant combinators set the colour for the display.

The green wire is connected to a miner on the ore patch and set to read the entire patch.

    https://preview.redd.it/s5pwqu0x9c261.png?width=307&format=png&auto=webp&s=24341be4464fba538be4be7d27a8ad9aac67e96c

Each combinator divides the ore quantity by 100K and outputs an integer value as A - not a great choice as A is reserved for Accumulator level - might adjust this later.

The lights are set to A >= n where ne is a number in the sequence 0,1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128, etc, so each light represents double the previous number. If your light goes down by a step the value has halved.

Interesting Obeservation. Seeing as I am not using coal to provide power, I'm heavily into coal liquefaction as a source of oil.

    Pollution Map

Not bad for 40 hours into the build.

Losses: Now this might as well be peaceful mode! The one death was to a fully loaded Iron ore train as I was paving the railway track area!

Map exchange string : Only if you are really feeling daring!

If I have more boilers / steam engines than necessary, will they produce excess pollution?

My first truly successful beaconed setup. Full blue belt of circuits from 4 assembler 3s. "Only" ~1200hrs in Steam edition.

    X1KV3 Week 3

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:37 AM PST

    X1KV3 Week 3

As promised here is X1KV3 Sit-rep Week 3

In Short...112 Smelters are done, 2k per min Red and Green Science is done,1.8k red ammo per min is done and I am not polluting the biters!

So, in case anyone missed it, I started a new map with science set to be 1,000 times more expensive than normal. I gave myself a large starting area and increased the yield of my resource patches. Biters, Evolution, Expansion and Pollution are all switched on, I cheesed cliffs to make them shorter and smaller and I cheesed biters Making fewer but larger bases. I have failed this challenge twice and this is my 3rd attempt.

    Greetings Factorions.

It feels good to be back on track somewhat. It was a disappointing week last week knowing that I would have to go right back to 50 hours in and that meant remaking 112 Smelter stacks, All the Sciences, Ammo production...Basically everything apart from the mines. Well at least the mines were done and optimised for 34 mines per belt to give the Smelter stack some longevity.

On Monday I played for 14 hours and got the smelters made. Then I spent the next day connecting lines of ore to smelters and also building Landfill production so it was ready for when landfill research finished.

On Wednesday Landfill was finished and I started Making red Ammo production as I was now researching Weaponry 2. I got that Ammo array set up and it makes 2 full yellow belts of ammo. 1.8k ammo per min. That is enough to Start with. later I will need more but I am leeching the Iron for the future ammo supply from grey science when grey science isn't producing. This was one of the compromises I had to make in reducing my Land in order to have a more secure base. I have access to less raw resources so I have to Juggle what I have a bit.

While I have been building this I have tried to have 1 mine from each mine field working to at least send a few nuggets of ore along the belt so that I can see what it carries but also to slowly fill up the belts so that when i switch on factory I dont have to wait so long for the belts to fill up. This proves to be harder than I imagined. The mines create a lot of pollution and a slight miscalculation and the cloud spreads and triggers bitter attacks. Also those nuggets get crafted and then made into other stuffs and so I have to put breaks in the belts and then remember to put the belts back when i start the factory up. I have managed to fill up a few belts slowly but not many. I still have time to do this though while i make Grey and Blue science. Edging the materials closer and closer to the assemblers but not letting them smelt... the anticipation is real.

Last playthrough I build far to much Landfill and also let the pollution go crazy when Filled up my smelters with coal and both were disastrous. I have made only enough Landfill that I need for my walls and to reclaim some land to build on but apart from that I have been as minimal as possible.

This time round I have only triggered a handful of tiny attacks. The pollution Cloud is well under control. Evolution is at 0 .3666 which I am very pleased with. I have pretty much stopped producing anything in assembly machines. I have tons of materials to build the rest of my base so I dont need to evolve biters through production.

Science is stopped right now. I have made red and green science production arrays capable of 2k science per minute. I have yet to build the Labs to process the science packs but I will and it will be 2k science labs so that i dont have to wait on the 60secs researches. Last playthrough I went for enough to satisfy 30sec researches but that proved so slow.

Evolution over time is quite minimal so I feel quite safe now to go ahead and make grey and blue science. After this I will be making Approx. 3.6k Red ammo per minute Leeching Iron plates from grey science while grey science isn't needed.

After this I will be bolstering and beefing up my wall defences. At the moment I have 4 rows of turrets being supplied with burner inserters and a split yellow belt of coal and red ammo. I want those walls to be 10 rows deeps with 4 yellow belts of coal/red ammo split. This is really a minimal needed to give me some time to repair in between attacks. I have had waves of blue biters chew through 6 rows in 1 hit.

When all that is done I will be in a position to switch everything on and race towards flamers, Lasers , bots and all that good stuff. I will be making a master save at that point and that will be my new groundhog day. Restarting from that point over and over. I just have to be a bit more patient so I can be in the best position possible before the real fight begins.

I am doing a really boring, poor quality, unscheduled, no mic`d twitch stream if you like to come and watch. It will make you feel better about your life choices. Find me on twitch.tv/marcmerry

Wooohooo... feels good, feels like a new game and its great to be back on track. I will update in a week.

    Keep Smiling Peeps

    Current Pollution

I wanted to belt over it but i need it in the future so i was being good to my future self .

It was a test. Red bitters vs yellow ammo.

I was testing things and this looked so pretty. I was walking along a line of 61 smelters while they were firing up 8)

    2k green science per min

    2k Red science per min

    1.8k red ammo per min

    61 Iron ore Smelters

Drip feeding belts to fill them slowly to minimize pollution cloud

    Current Footprint and pollution

this is what I can support for science and keep the cloud from the biters.

6 lines in. 3 lines out.

Who put a copper mine right next to my smelters o_O

    Current Research

    What is polluting right now

Total Biters Killed so far. 8)

Does ones first factory always look like pasta?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:27 PM PST

Should we have a subreddit dedicated to Space Exploration with/without Krastorio 2?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:42 AM PST

Seablock has its own sub. SE is probably right up there as a most played mod. And K2 is probably WAY up there as a go to mod for people wanting to try mods. K2SE blends really well.

So ya I wonder if we should have a sub dedicated to it??

    Screen resolution issue

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:15 AM PST

Have a strange issue with Factorio. Just bought the game and demo had the same issue. I have a 4K monitor and running resolution 3840x2160. Now when I make this 1920x1080 it works but the screen shows like as the attached screenshot. Only shows 1/4 of the screen.

I tried to change windows sizing from 150% to 175% but still does not work. I see a lot of people having no issues running it in this resolution. What might be causing this or how can I resolve?

Tried windowed mode or full screen

Can browse the menu in the 1/4 of screen but not playable

    Hey quick question

Just a simple question what's the best way to tap a line out the main bus that doesn't cause major unbalancing
