- For some reason, Steam is featuring the Factorio Demo for me (I already own the game). Maybe the devs should update the cover art to use the new graphics?

- I thought to myself “Why would you ever want to leave the Spidertron?!”, so I made a mod that means that you don’t have to! Start the game as a Spidertron Engineer with the same health as a normal player and upgrade yourself through technology research.

Thank you Wube for setting an example Posted: 16 Aug 2020 10:14 AM PDT I'm a long time player of Factorio, playing it on and off since it first appeared on Steam. Not as long as some of you reading this of course, but I'd say that i've seen a fairly large amount of its developement history. The devs have obviously done an amazing job with the game and the 1.0 release is fantastic but that's not why I'm writing this post. What I want to thank Wube for is setting an example in an Industry in which quality standards have been deteriorating more and more over the past decade. An industry in which many "full releases" are 1.0 only in name for publicity while in actuality being rushed pieces of garbage that in some cases could barely even be called a beta. Many of us have become caucious or even cynical whenever the "early access" label pops up on steam and for a good reason. Additionally preorder bonuses, "Roadmaps" and general marketing practices have grown to become a plague while factorio on the other hand has always been one of the very few games that I could point my friends towards and say that there are infact developers where you know that every single one working on this product actually gives a shit and just wants to make a damn good game, which sadly is something that in the current year you just dont see that often anymore outside of the high standards that very few companies like Nintendo and some indi developers set for themselves. They've also been very open about the development process as a whole as can be seen in the FFF series and worked very closely with the community that wanted to help make the game better. With factorio you could almost get the feeling that the "early access" label was more like a challenge for other studios to step it up, since by comparison factorio was basicly a full game already 4 years ago. So thank you Wube Software for providing me with countless hours of enjoyment and setting an example of how game development should look like. Sincerely, a fan. [link] [comments] | ||
