I really appreciate how customizable the game can be even before mods Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:58 PM PDT My first playthrough I left everything completely default. I got about twenty hours in on my fist base untill I hit too many walls and decided to start over. I had fallen way behind in biter evolution, my main bus was heading for an ocean, my power was still steam engine based and out of coal / in a failure loop, and the prospect of redesigning my base was all too much. So I started over and tweaked some settings. Something I found that I like to do is to turn the starting area way up to 400 plus percent and also to turn off time based evolution and turn up kill/pollution based evolution. I didn't get attacked by a biter until blue science and when I did they were trival because they were still small. But I also turned up their base frequency and size up. I wanted my biter experience to be challenging eventually, but pushed back until later and also to have their impact on me directly related to my impact on them. Once I started to really expand they became a challenge but I was ready for them. Now in the same twenty hours I got all my non space science running and artillery is almost finished. I just love how with a few sliders I'm able to change the experience to exactly what I want. I can only imagine how much further I could take it with the default world presets and eventually mods. Anyway just think it's super cool how the game can be tailored to exactly what so many different people want out of the game. [link] [comments]

From demo to full game, something I miss Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:14 AM PDT I played the hell out of the demo for a week before buying the full game. Something I miss from the demo - finding the ruins of other bases. I know that stumbling across a base with dozens of free solar panels or electric furnaces is just to help people in the tutorial and shouldn't happen in the full game, but finding evidence that others had survived the crash and built their own bases before the aliens got to them was cool, it added to the sense of exploration and finding those places with free supplies felt like a reward for venturing out. I filled up the entire world map in the demo. Full game, eh, I poke out to look for new resource nodes and push back the alien expansion, but there's nothing much to find out there it seems. I miss finding those other bases. [link] [comments]

I hate Nilaus and his neat city blocks Posted: 31 Aug 2020 06:59 AM PDT I've been following his deathworld YouTube series and his stupid clean and beautiful looking bases. So I recently decided to tear up my entire death world base (at purple science) to put it on a clean city block bus set up, with rail expansion blocks. It took me 5 friggen hours with random plates and other random nonsense blowing up my inventory space. Power went out to my perimeter defence which meant I spent another couple hours cleaning up the mess and redesigning my perimeter. After all this, I opened up my seablock save. Guess what, I couldn't stand the ugly look of my spaghetti anymore. So now I'm ripping up fucking everything in my seablock base as well, causing power spirals and making a huge mess of things. If you haven't played seablock before, the buildings take FOREVER to mine. And the by-products just accumulate, so I've got stacks on stacks of random useless crap in crates all over my base because I can't bring myself to destroy stuff that might be useful some day Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to finish rebuilding my goddamn geode washing station for the 10th time. TLDR; Nilaus ruined my life (and my saves) /s In all seriousness shoutout to /u/NilausTV. His masterclass YouTube series is amazing. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT The reason the engineer doesn't sleep is the same reason spidertron requires a fish in its recipe. Spidertron is a machine that can do a set amount of actions, controlled remotely, probably using the fish's brain as an interface. Would a "human" eat raw fish to heal wounds? Of course not. Raw fish is to repair the fish in the humanoid robot. As the spidertron uses portable reactors in its recipe, so is the fish vessel powered by it. The fish might be the supreme species capable of interstellar travel, a type 3 civilization, that looks at biters as we do at ants. Or trees. Merely a small obstacle in the way of expansion. Why can you send fish in rockets? So they too can colonize the vast expanse of the ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!! This is just a theory. But now i can't look at a game of Factorio in the same way... Posted: 31 Aug 2020 08:42 AM PDT I've done about 5 hours of gaming on laptop while I was on vacations. Now I am back home and decided to import my save to PC via steam cloud. However steam did something very weird and imported my PC save to laptop. I lost couple hours of placing walls and killing bitters... Is there something I can do? [link] [comments] |
