A tip for people that don't have too much free time, but still want to reach endgame and megabases Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:11 AM PDT Hey, I've got over 1000 hours in factorio, but due to work, the lockdown and two very bored (and non sleeping) kids, my evenings are short and I don't get much time to play anymore. Factorio is a great way to relax after a tough day so I really missed it. I'm doing a new play through now that allows me to progress quickly without being too cheaty. I find as soon as I add anything that makes it *too* easy, I lose all interest in playing! - First, all the QOL mods that still keep the game vanilla feeling. Quick start, auto fill, squeak through etc. - Use the game speed command as often as you like. While waiting for things to build, science to finish, travelling around. I up the game speed to 5, even 20 sometimes. This would be mega cheaty and completely ruin the feeling of the progression without the next step: - Death world settings. You have to be really careful changing game speed and only for a short amount of time and you need to make sure your defences are solid. This adds so much challenge while with the above changes, keeps the game pace up. My current play through, I'm completely cornered and just managed to expand enough to get oil to my spaghetti base. It's been a lot of fun and has been really difficult. [link] [comments]

I'm stuck and don't know what my next goal should be. Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:40 AM PDT So I started playing yesterday and I like it so far. Except I don't know what to do next. Right now I have automated making and distributing red and green science packs. That process was very fun and it gave me a goal to work towards, now that is finished I feel stuck. I know the "end" goal is to launch a rocket only I have no idea how to get there. Right now I'm just researching technologies and that's it.. So sure, I can refine oil right now but I have no need for oil because nothing is consuming it. I hope you get my point and would appreciate some guidelines and tips. [link] [comments]

Disabling the new pipette tool beep? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:12 PM PDT Is there an option to turn this beep sound off, or a mod to disable it? It's incredibly annoying when I use the key constantly and I haven't found anything to turn it off. I cannot play factorio with a constant beeping sound and as such haven't managed to play the game for more than 5 minutes since the feature was implemented. Any kind of help would be mega appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jun 2020 04:17 AM PDT Hello everybody, so basically I was working on a mod, you can use alien artifacts to create a special item that you can put down to create a spawner, it spawns a special type of biters that when killed have special drops, the only problem is that when you put the spawner down its friendly, pliiiiz hilp :( [link] [comments]
My first thought after first play through Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:37 AM PDT A friend and I were looking for a game to play together in the end of April. Normally when I look to try a game I usually look for multiplayer games that we think we might work for a LAN Party we host usually about twice a year. We took the plunge on Factorio this time. We never played through the tutorial or story missions. We do this to see how LAN Party friendly it would be. We took a deep dive and decided to play on the first randomly generated map on the default settings. We played it for an evening as local coop and decided to throw it on our server for multiplayer purposes. I was impressed. I enjoyed the balance of trying to build and trying to fend off the bugs. The other part we noticed is that It was interesting to see how naturally imperfect the production flow felt. Just when we think we finally got supply in one area sorted out the next task completely threw off that production as we started to over use the resources for that. I never felt that the game was cheating but I knew it was always a mistake we made that we needed to correct or it was a gross underestimation on our part. By the second research flask we needed to expand and find a better way to protect ourselves. I snuck along the shoreline north to our fist expansion and started bullet production that would put bullets one a belt along the entire wall of our base. By time we finally decommissioned in favor of lasers, it was a few thousand belts long fully loaded. By time we got to the third research flask and looking a head at the forth I realized our scale was way off and that our production lines and ripped apart everything and rebuild. My friend build a train. we still have not used it to this day. It is in its original place. he build a couple of cars. It handles like the Rare game RC-Pro am for the NES. we have a few of them, including a tank. They are scatter about like old vehicles found in farmers fields. If new trees were to ever grow in this game I'm sure the next time I see it there would be one that popped up threw the rusted out floor boards straight up through the roof. Around the forth one took a bit longer to do because we needed to figure out where this crude oil was and what it even looked like. We had a uranium patch near us for a while with no way to use it. My friend was also eager to get nuclear power going as well. Fortunately, we found one in the same direction as the uranium. It was around this time we had 2 major wall failures. It was at this point we started to focus on improving our effectiveness by doing double walls and filling the gaps on turrets. In places we started doing a layer of laser turrets as soon as we could as a second line directly. Some time before the first satellite launch we had a few major expansions. The fully loaded power Armor with a personal reactor and 6 shield and 8 turret was line god mode for a bit. I was running out into the fields with a disco light show emanating from my body with bugs dying after being blinded by the light. That changed as soon as the green bitters showed up and I noticed all the fire was on them for a few seconds. :( Once we launched our first satellite launched I noticed we got a logistics embargo accolade. It was also around this time I started noticing that we were only accomplishing one task in a gaming session due to scale. I had no idea what that was. It wasn't until about 45 satellite launches after when I started mass producing roboports and robots. I only had personal robots up to this point. It took probably another 20 satellite launched to figure out what was going on and tinkering with them. And also on a number of occasions, finding them flying out into a middle of a lake, give up, return to shore flying slowly in defeat and trying again... and again. I had to landfill paths on the lake just for roboports. Now that they are sorted out, I have enjoyed them greatly. Nothing like dumping a thousand items in a chest to be gone a second later. Due to base expansion it has been challenging to expand the network as well. Recently I started ripping up the old unused area and upgrading them to their higher tier items. we also centralized our oil refineries and coal processing. Now we are just expanding our base strictly for mining to funnel resources into our old outer factory productions. I would say the most challenging part in this game is balancing our Green, Red and Blue card production. At this point the only thing I really feel like I need to do set up another area for green card production and expand the logistics network. I find that ore patches that are only 1 to 4 million are too small and will require attention too soon. I still need to look at trains but in our map express belts seem to work okay. I also feel like for the first game save we are close to its natural conclusion for us. In about 2 days we would have only had the game for 2 months, I will say this game is way better then expected. The only thing that i found annoying is running back to find out what broke to find that one belt somehow rotated after running by an area. That really is minor. I don't have to use cars so who cares. I may take a break from it for a bit because it does suck a lot of time. I highly recommend the game. We had fun. If anyone is curious. Here is the game save. Also If there are any notable issues for efficiency let me know. We entered this blind. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yUJhHrhcIHdSyf2IdOAV2_dqkIXs2LSm/view [link] [comments]
