Does anyone else find beacon builds kind of dull? Posted: 11 Feb 2020 05:11 AM PST Before modules and beacons, you tend to get interesting designs, unique shapes, and wonderfully bizarre belt layouts to save space. With beacons, everything basically looks the same. You have a layout of beacons with four or so assemblers, and pretty much every one looks the same. There's no real difference between a blue circuit factory and a plastic factory. Obviously I understand the point of UPS savings, but it does change the aesthetics in a way I think detracts from them. [link] [comments]

LTN: Balancing total number of trains Posted: 11 Feb 2020 03:29 AM PST I was wondering if anyone had done some thinking around this concept: I love LTN and I'm using it successfully for a 300-500SPM base in the making. At a certain point, around 50'ish trains or so, I realized a bit late that production was halting at certain places, not due to lack of resources, but simply by having too few trains. My usual workaround is to plop down a few additional depots with 6 train stops each, add 6 more trains per depot, and then see if everything chugs along nicely, but this seems a bit cumbersome, especially when scaling. Is there an easy way of gauging % utilization of my train network? I.e something like average idle time, LTN orders waiting for a train, or similar? In general it would be awesome to get more train-based statistics to help find bottlenecks, things like average movement speed per train, time spent at read lights, time spent loading/unloading etc - maybe there's a mod for that? :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:39 PM PST Greetings all, Speaking strictly for the balance of the main game, should there be a new miner? Now I know everyone's individual playstyle is different. I just feel like there should be something after electric miners. Burner miners, I make maybe 10-15 of them. Just enough to get me going until the electric age. This means that the electric miner takes me from the early game to megabase. I am just spitballling here but obviously a miner that was bigger or faster would be nice. Or one with built in power poles. Maybe even ones with internal buffers that could be like passive storage chests? What about nuclear powered ones? Ones that require lube but mine 2-3x as fast. Just was wondering what everyone elses opinion is on this. [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:24 AM PST So about 4-5 months ago I got my first rocket launch. I was relieved because I finally beat this game that literally, kept me up at night. So I'm ready to commit myself to this torture again. But I want a new goal and I'm torn between "mega" base with an end goal of so many rockets and hour...etc, or trying out a mod that adds a little more depth, without completely changing the game. For instance I've seen bobs and that's a bit of overkill for me. Also I'm not much into speed runs part of enjoying the game for me is just walking around and doing stupid stuff in the world. Anyways thanks. [link] [comments]

Just bought Factorio should I play vanilla or is there any mods recommended for first time players? Posted: 10 Feb 2020 10:31 PM PST I'm going into this basically blind, I was recommended the game by a friend in another subreddit after running out of games to play I decided I would give it a go. Also I heard this game is very complex and has a fairly steep learning curve. [link] [comments]
There should be another intermediary product between solid fuel and rocket fuel Posted: 11 Feb 2020 12:15 AM PST In real life, rockets don't just take fuel with them, they also bring oxidizer - in space, you can't just use the outside air the same way you do in an internal combustion engine, given the fact that, well, there is no air in space. For this reason, I am suggesting another intermediary product be added between solid fuel and rocket fuel, maybe called "refined fuel". This one could be used in cars and trains the same way rocket fuel is used now, and could be the basis of nuclear fuel the same way rocket fuel is now. From refined fuel, rocket fuel could be attained by adding water to it (given that water contains oxygen). Since water is not a scarce resource, I don't think this would really break the balance of the game, but it would make it a bit more realistic. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
