    A Game of Automation

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 07:05 AM PST

    Factorio is a game of automation. You find coal and mine it by hand but that proves laborious so you build machines to mine it for you. You carry the coal to your smelters but that too becomes tiresome so you lay belts to move items around your base. The factory grows!

    You continue to build, you learn about oil, rocketry and artillery - those biters don't concern you anymore. Your base now has an insatiable demand for resources and space, pollution is everywhere, rockets fly overhead.

    But where next? Sure, you could launch an incredible number of rockets a minute or produce science packs in their hundreds, no thousands and research into infinity! But is that the ultimate - I say no.

    To automate further you must employ the most complex of machines you have access to: your friends. Recommend or gift Factorio to them and watch how they automatically grow another factory. Every rocket launched, every tech researched, every single iron plate smelted was automated by you!

    The factories must grow! Praise be to the Omnissiah!

    I have 6 mega nuclear power plants. Do I need 6 mega nuclear power plants? No. Will I ever push their capabilities? Probably not. But I have an obsession with building them. After beating the game and getting all the achievements several times over, its my goal to grossly overproduce power.

    Quite happy with the aesthetics of my nuclear power station.

    help train says no path

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 06:33 AM PST

    I did it. After 227 hours of playing and many different saves, I finally am able to launch a rocket and win the game! (the first post wasn't good enough quality apparently so this is actually my second rocket)

    Why do some people consider belt braiding cheating?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 03:01 AM PST

    I know its quite useful for what I have heard. Like having up to 3 items in one line slot using belt braiding. But why do some people consider it cheating?

    Tip: you can use a deconstruction planner filtering 'entity ghost's to find out what you need to manually complete a blueprint, and where the unfulfilled ghosts are.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 08:09 PM PST

    Just don't let go by accident!

    This is especially useful if you're halfway across the map at your mall and want to make sure you have everything you need, or you're using the short-range nanobots mod with a large blueprint.

    how to stop lowering sound volume when zooming out

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:49 AM PST

    I'm new to this game and I'm finding it great so far except for one single thing when I zoom out the sound volume is too low to hear anything, if I increase it then when I zoom in my eardrums get destroyed.

    any help would be appreciated.

    Quick question for you guys.

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:33 AM PST

    If I have 8 yellow belts and 8 red belts, and I use a blue belt 16 to 8 balancer, will it work, or should I change my yellow belts into red belts even though they won't fully saturate it. I need answers!

    [slight sad complain] Where are the belt sounds?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:54 AM PST

    I came back after some break and play now the new 1.8 version. I like the new sounds for everything, but I'm really missing the transport belt sounds. I heard these so many times while thinking about a design, now it feels empty and something is missing :(

    I wish these would be back...

    Blueprints of my balanced LTN stations

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:36 PM PST

    Hi,

    I just cleaned up my LTN stations that I developed overtime and made myself a blueprint book with all the variations I use. I posted it on Factorio Prints so other could use it or get inspired by it.

    https://factorioprints.com/view/-M0kibJLKOkXqbdu6dIv

    Here are the main features of theses stations :

    • Provider stations are wired to the station according to LTN documentation to stop loading train when the requested quantity is loaded;
    • All requester and provider stations are balanced. Circuits are used to make sure that all chest are loaded or unloaded evenly. This prevent a situation where a train can't be loaded (unloaded) because there is items (space) available in chests, but not if front of the right wagons;
    • Requester stations use filtered inserter to unload trains so they never unload items that are not supposed to be received by that station.
    • There is "Twin" receiver and provider stations. Theses station can received or provide two types of items loaded or unloaded on differents sides of the track;
    • The depot station check if the trains are empty. If they are not an alarm sounds and the depot station is disable to prevent the train from leaving.

    I'm also interested in ideas for improvements.

    Hope this helps.
