Demo! (if you dont have the game yet just pick the one that best describes you I guess, reddit polls are bad)

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 05:29 AM PST

I think its really smart of the game to have a free demo, especially as it doesn't really sound too appealing at first glance. I'm just curious how many people actually used / were convinced by the demo.

So, I did a thing, anyone else accomplish 0 bug kills?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 09:57 AM PST

So, I did a thing, anyone else accomplish 0 bug kills?

Decided to do a run where I didn't engage the bugs at all, used efficiency modules and terrain to limit my pollution so the bugs never got triggered. I call it a stealth run... anyone else do something like this?

It was an interesting challenge, and a lot of tension as my cloud expanded near bases requiring complete shutdown and relocation of smelteries at least once. Also, prospecting on foot near nests near end game when I needed moar copper was high stakes.

This is a default rail world map, those don't have enemy nest expansion turned on.

Can I get some help as a new player?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 08:10 AM PST

I've just started getting into the oil stage. I've been transporting patroleum gas from an oil with a train setup into some tanks back to my main factory. I learned about the main bus concept and while it's not perfect it makes me feel way more organized. But now I'm seeing all these recipes and I'm not sure how I should go about this. I could just make a whole chemical plant area along the main bus and bring some water and patroleum over, but I'd also need a coal line? Also I'm thinking about going beyond my first iron deposit and setting up a train, but how should I put that into the main iron line?

I know this game is about doing it your own way but for some reason I'm getting this analysis paralysis and just feel like I'm doing something wrong.

[Feature Request] Allow Spidertron remote to work on occupied Spidertron.

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 06:37 PM PST

I just got a second Spidertron and have my children playing with me. Unfortunately, when my kids get in the second Spidertron, I cannot control it with the remote. It would be convenient to be able to control the occupied Spidertron with a remote so the kids don't have to drive it around.

Currently, I run to my destination and they follow my original Spidertron and catch up with me eventually.

I'm aware I can drive the Spidertron while they are passengers, but they really enjoy having their own that they can control once we arrive at the destination. Would be useful to "bump" them out of the way too!

How do I have inserters hold until all of them can pick up an item?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 07:40 PM PST

I have your standard wagon loader setup like so.

The issue I have with it is that it prioritizes the middle chests over the outer ones for low output items. This leads to a bottleneck when loading a train. I could just do a 1->6 balancer but that's not a great approach because, relatively speaking, that takes up a ton of space.

I've tried a few things which all have their issues.

Wiring the inserters up to the belt just off the bottom of the image and setting them to be enabled on anything != 0. The belt reads contents. Pulse doesn't give the inserters enough time to actually do anything. Hold and it still loads the chests unevenly.

Wiring up all the belts and connecting them to the inserters. Setting the inserter to anything > #. This also has it's issues. Set the number too high and it prioritizes one side of the belt. Setting it to half the capacity of the belts and some chests are still prioritized over others for high throughput items.

Not splitting and doing a straight line. This doesn't really fix anything. It still has the same issues as the second approach.

Just ensuring full belts. Hah, you're funny. There's some items that ensuring a full belt, even a yellow one, would require absurd amounts of space and materials.

Any ideas? Been tinkering with this for a couple hours and I can't come up with anything.

    Planning on the map/ground

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 08:08 AM PST

    https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=4022

The above mod is exactly what I am looking for but it looks like it hasn't been updated since 2016. I know there is a blueprint tool that could be used to plan without building but for just quick and dirty planning that doesn't interfere with me want to build something there in the meantime, I would like something like this. Another example of what I am looking for is something that works like the planning tool in Rimworld.

    Thanks in advance 🙋🏾

I know ill need alot of iron but for which ones can i get away with a small factory?

I'm Looking for a City Block BP Book

    Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:42 AM PST

I build all my bases using a mixture of blueprints from other users. If I see a post here with a cool bp, I find a place in my current or next base for it.

What i haven't seen is a set of bp for building a city block style mega base. Im on the hunt! Does anyone have suggestions?

    Extreme Megabase - Perfect Ratios

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 12:11 PM PST

    Extreme Megabase - Perfect Ratios

I wondered where/whether there was a perfect target to build to and I found it (or several, depending on your design and willingness to wait on Moore's Law).

Using the calculator at https://kirkmcdonald.github.io/ with Assembler-3 and the maximum number of Production and Speed modules in assemblers and Beacons, outputting a whole number of compressed belts of each science.......

By my scrappy calculations; for a distributed base, to achieve PERFECT ratios, all you have to do it build to a target of 2,700,00 spm. Simple!

156,600 spm is very close too, though.

Efficiency, defined as % utilization of assembler-3 and chemical plants

Seriously though, I'm finishing off a 2.7k spm 'megabase' and recently become focussed on building neatly and to ratio, chasing some imagined ideal of layout and efficiency (and staving off the madness my designs were inducing by trying to build empirically). Wube have done an amazing (and frustrating) job making the game so beautifully balanced.

    Help with a circuit

    Help with a circuit

I am going to premise that I am not entirely sure what I want is possible.

Here is my artillery setup (using Krastorio 2)

    https://preview.redd.it/noq2vo31ue061.png?width=635&format=png&auto=webp&s=7003abafa58ed6bd58fabd4afddcec251c3ba56a

If possible, I want a circuit system where the lights are off if its unloaded, green if laoded with regular shells and red (and possibly flashing) if load with a nuclear shell. Any help would be appreciated.
