I hadn't discovered the game back in 2017 when r/place happened, so I probably never noticed this sub's contribution whilst busy keeping our r/startrek contribution alive. Retrospectively, I'm very pleased to see r/factorio represented; well done guys!

    Challenge: 30 sciences beehive

    Challenge: 30 sciences beehive

If you are looking for a new twist, but you don't like the added complexity of overhaul mods this might be for you!

The goal is to create a bot based beehive base. Create hexagon tiles with a Factorissimo building in the center. All transportation inside the hive has to be done by bots (the bees). Each building is only allowed to create one intermediate or product. So the inputs for green circuits are iron plates and copper wire, not copper plates. And to spice things even more up we add the 30 extra sciences mod, so we need even more hexagon cells.

Credit for the beehive idea goes to Nilaus, who did this once upon a time in a Krastorio 1 game.

    Required mods:

Here's an image of a game I played doing this with only vanilla science packs. I had a lot of fun.

My "factory in a pocket" submission

My "factory in a pocket" submission

This is my submission to the challenge posted by u/seeker0003. The goal is to create a factory that can launch rockets that you can carry around in your pocket.

I went mostly vanilla with only the required factorissimo mod and a few QoL mods. The waterfill and quarry mods would make the challenge too easy for my taste. Now I can't generate the resources where I need them. I also decided to use only belts and no robots, because I like spaghetti.

    Outside

This is the one building to pocket. You can place it anywhere and when it receives all the required inputs it will launch rockets and develop science.

This building actually exports power to the miners, because that has to be generated inside. That also explains the large number of water and coal inputs.

    Inside

Welcome inside. This first floor generates the power and processes raw recources.

    Main

The main building. Here we create the 2nd level intermediates. This area also feeds our Mall, Science and Rocket buildings.

    Research center

    Oil processing

Spent a lot of time on making this ready for modules. Which I never needed. :)

There is something about the factorissimo mod. I've had my most fun games using this. You are both space constrained and can work with very clear inputs and outputs and ignore what goes on inside. Basically service oriented architecture.

So thanks for this challenge. Looking forward to the next! :)

    Math behind balancer loops

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 12:03 AM PDT

Hi guys, I have been trying to get my head around balancers lately and while I understand the general concept I'm having a hard time mathematically conceptualizing loops in the system. For instance, if the right output of a splitter feeds the same splitter again, how much is the left output getting? 3/4? (1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16...)? If the latter is the case, how can I reasonable fit such a bizarre number into the rest of the calculation? Maybe the answer is trivial, but I stopped doing maths after high school, so it's not exactly my strong point.

    Thanks in advance!

I want to start playing factorio with my friends and one of them said that if we split the price in the factorio website we can all download it and play separately together. Do y'all know if that's true?

Factorio’s World Is Infinite, Ours Is Not

    Posted: 19 Oct 2020 03:45 PM PDT

Recently I've had the pleasure to write something about Factorio for the Superjump publication on Medium. I'm a firm believer that games can be used to illustrate things about our world better than pretty much anything else, and I can't think of any quicker or more enjoyable way to grasp how industrialization works even if on a, of course, much smaller and much simplified scale. From there, the jump to ecology was obvious and I couldn't resist referencing when Elon Musk tweeted about Factorio.

I'm not great at this game, so I tried to avoid anything too technical for fear of reporting incorrect information. Please let me know if I got something wrong.

    Mod recommendations for new play-through

    Posted: 20 Oct 2020 06:43 AM PDT

Having spent some time in the late game, I'm thinking about starting up a modded game, but I'm not sure what mods I should get for my next play-through. What are some good Quality of life mods I should get? And what other mods could make for a fun and exciting new game? I'm not looking for anything that completely changes how the game plays.

Thanks in advance for any answers!
