    Complete modularization?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 01:27 AM PST

I've been wondering if it would be a good idea to setup a world like this: Each and every resource, either mined or processed, is stored in its own storage facility. So there's a train taking all the iron ore to a storage facility, a train going from there to ovens, another train going from there to take the iron plates to another storage facility. From there, multiple trains could take the iron plates to wherever they need to go. Whatever is made out of them gets its own storage facility. If the storage facility gets too small at some point, I could easily build a bigger one and have trains transport everything over, leaving the old one empty and ready for new items to be stored.

Is there something I'm missing or should this work just fine? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I would like to try and get a save game file thread going on here so we can all share with each other! From beginner base to mega to bobs and angels to anything! Lets see what you got!

I see so many nice screen shots of so many beautiful bases! I would love to be able to go and explore some them if anyone is willing to share! You never know what we may be able to learn from one another! Thanks in advance to anyone who is interested in something like this!

    6 months later...

Played Factorio about a half a year ago, a bit too much, as you all. Decided to take a break, played some other games but they were not as captivating as Factorio. So I am back!

Suggest me mods for fresh multiplayer start with aggressive biters

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 08:08 AM PST

I couldn't find something like this in google, so I'll ask directly.

Me and two of my friends are going to start a new game. We want vanilla game with more interesting and aggressive biters.

So far my modlist looks like this: Rampant, RampantArsenal, AlienBiomes, Geothermal

Do you have any other suggestions?

Please don't suggest QoL and big overhauls like bobs or IR - we're not looking for extended game, we're looking for more intense midgame.

Mods to use for when you want to expand on the base game without having a quintillion resources to manage?

Something fun and challenging but at the same time keeping the iron/copper/stone/oil/uranium resources, and nothing more?

    Aai, Co-op

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 07:45 AM PST

    Hi everybody!
I'm thinking to organize an AAI co-op event this weekend, but I was curious what people would like more, program everything and use bp's to build a base. Or build a base in a certain area with a border and you'd have to use the aai stuff to gather materials!

    Thx for the feedback!

The new quickbar mechanic might work alright for vanilla, but with big mods it just sucks.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 06:32 AM PST

There I said it. And yes I do know the new hotkeys. And yes, I tried multiple methods. And most of it is fine, but there is ONE grip I have with it, and it's really bugging me out and disrupting the flow of the game even. And that's that newly handcrafted items go straight to your inventory. This is annoying as shit when placing infrequently used buildings.

So items go straight to your inventory. Why don't you just hotkey them?

Well sure, you could, and that's fine in vanilla when you have 1 furnace and 1 assembler you want to use everywhere. But if you're playing a mod that has 1 million buildings and each of those may be required at any time, but just as often you'll not use them for hours, then you just want to handcraft them on the spot and immediately place them. That's what I want. I want to hold nothing first. Handcraft the building I need, and place it. I don't use them every 30 seconds, so I don't need them in the quickbar, heck they don't even all fit in there, not even with 80 spots.

    So? Handcraft them?

Yea, and they go to your inventory. So first you have to find them there. Now, again maybe this works in vanilla, when you have like two dozen items in your inventory at most. But with many mods, you end up with hundreds of items in your inventory. So either you have to now sift through those manually, trying to find your building, or you have to ctrl-f, but either way takes so much longer than it used to!

It lights up if you hover over the recipe.

Yea, but that means I need to be staring at the recipe while the building is being crafted, which might be 10 seconds. Or I have to re-find the recipe in the recipe list. And even if I am to immediately find the building I just crafted, it still requires me to open up the inventory, which is detrimental to speed.

It annoys me so much. I hate it. I wish it never changed. The improvements aren't worth this annoyance.

    End of rant.
