Question about constructing a rail megabase

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:36 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm starting to think about ideas for how to construct my first megabase. Right now My plan is to first construct a base that only produces building materials (everything needed to construct other bases). Then, I'd design a giant sub factory that takes in raw materials and produces around 1k spm. After that, I can just blueprint that sub factory and duplicate it to my heart's content (or at least until my computer just can't handle it)

Normally I just like to design and build things on my own, but since this is going to be a huge project, I don't want to totally screw up. So, is this idea worth doing, or is it totally nonsensical?

Finally accomplished There is no spoon. Wasn't as hard as I thought.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 07:10 AM PDT

Tried to accomplish there is no spoon twice before. Once in 0.15 and again in 0.16. I was too slow the first time and spent too long trying to get bots up the second time. Haven't really played much of 0.17 (busy with young child) but thought I would give it a go.

    Just a few thoughts:

    • Did it with 1.5hours to spare. Once I finished all research I cut all power and belting of resources to science production and hooked it up to rocket part production.
    • The only blueprint I used was my own design for a smelting array.
    • All yellow belts. I planned to have 5 belts of iron, 4 of copper and 3 of steel. In the end I think I only made 4, 3 and 2 respectively.
    • Only research that wasn't a requirement for the rocket was probably tool belt for some extra inventory space.
    • If I had to do it all again I would? I would add pipes into my mall. Don't know why I thought I wouldn't need that many pipes. Probably hand crafted more of them than anything else.

    B+A issues

    Posted: 01 Nov 2019 04:45 AM PDT

I have tried liking B+A a few times but what always turns me off bad is that SO DAMN MANY recipes have multiple outputs. Like yeah you can build buffers for the items but even that can fill up and clog the other product.

Since so many of you still like B+A a lot, how do you handle that?

(Industrial Revolution Mod) Question about how to automate advanced oil cracking recipe using refined platinum

(Industrial Revolution Mod) Question about how to automate advanced oil cracking recipe using refined platinum

    Hi all,

I can't figure out how to let the advanced oil cracking recipe work with the refined platinum run. The chem plants just fill up with platinum in the wrong slot and then the inserters won't put more into the input slot.

In the photo, you can see I've daisychained them from left to right and it works for a while but gets clogged up and stops. I don't know how to let this run without micromanaging inputs once in a while, and usually end up simply reverting to the less efficient basic cracking that doesn't use platinum, even though I have plenty of platinum. The chem plants get saturated with platinum int he wrong slots and then the whole thing comes to a stop and production ceases.

Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Is the Factorio engine capable of non-square grids?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2019 02:18 PM PDT

I have this idea of Factorio on a hexagonal or triangular grid, and I want to know if the game engine is capable of doing that, or will this have to be an entirely new game?
